Did another norwegian wijnbergen lion.

If we go with a more modern look id say the first one i posted or i can make one based on this.

Of course im assuming Kuauik can make them look the way you want them to aule.(perhaps slightly less dirt for me )

I dunno, I want something a bit more plain...

I'll find a picture of the KH1260 lion (it's not historical, but it's cool)

a google image search for heraldic symbols or armourial devices should turn up something usable.

even if it means finding a lion's head from one and the tail from another and doing a copy and paste job

amundr, could you make that lion once more without the black border, and without the eye? could you also darken the red colour a bit? a bit more burgundian red would look better IMHO

here's a picture of our lion that I've drawn (or had someone who can actually draw draw) on my shield (recognise the heraldry? it's from the wijnbergen armorial  ) the lion is the one our group uses... it's not historical, but it works, and it's pretty cool looking...

we could always use it for our norwegian flag and NPC/PC surcoats.

Pretty cool.
Its based on the modern interpretation from the briantimms website though and not the small original picture right ?

the lion or my heraldic device? I don't think the Brian Timms website was up when the club chose this lion, the club was started in 99, while brian timms seems to have put the wijnbergen armorial up on his website in, like... 2003 IIRC.

the lion is probably something drawn up by the early members as a plainer, less detailed version of the norwegian lion, sans axe and crown.
My heraldic device is made from the description in the wijnbergen scroll, red lion on gold field, with the bottom 2/3 a barry of 12 silver and blue stripes, as the device of "The king of Iceland". I found it here:

Nice, king of iceland was unfortunately one of the 50% on the roi page that didnt load for me so i didnt get to see it.

What do you think of the lion ?
Its perhaps abit too bulky, the lines around are a separate lion underneath so i just recolored that one.
Im working on one abit slimmer but it will take abit longer to do.(have to remove the lines left where the dark lines are)

I think it's perfect... let's put it on the norwegian banners. although I think the norwegian surcoats should be a darker red.

Did a slightly more detailed one.

Its almost brown now though aule, are you sure its not just your computer screen not complying with sRGB standards ?

yeah, that's a bit brown, true...

does this help?

— Color coordinates —
Hex triplet #800020
RGBB (r, g, b) (128, 0, 32)
HSV (h, s, v) (345°, 50%, 50%)
Source [Unsourced]
B: Normalized to [0–255] (byte)

it's how wikipedia defines Burgundy red...

The wikipedia code is abit wonky.(gets a very blue image)
Could you pick one here and tell me ?
Their burgundy is alot lighter but perhaps bloodred is more to your tastes ?

Skandinav 说:
That one looks very nice, Amundr.
Thank you, perhaps abit skinny around the legs though.

blood red looks cool, yeah. Also, we're free to pick any red we want, since they didn't have standardised colours back in the day, and anyone copying down a heraldic design would have mixed his own colour, and used that... so it's completely arbitrary what red is used. I prefer deep gritty brownish reds, in the burgundy, blood red, and maroon categories... but it's not only up to me you know

I like your lion as it is now... the Wijnbergen lion is skinny too, as is that lion on the coin you linked to.

I'm satisfied, with both.

want to do denmark as well?

Skandinav, can you post up a source for the hearts in the 12th century? because IMHO, the flames are much cooler

Sure, though im not sure how to do it without lines.
Not sure if i should as it has such detail in all sources ive seen.

Btw shouldn't the lions have eyes ? it has them in the original Wijnbergen image.

Well, i see a black dot where the eyes should be both on the swedish and norwegian lion.
