Hiring villagers for troops?

I have been playing M&B since ver .751 and have M&B warband etc..

I am missing something? I have been play wfas for about 2 hours and have got good relation with some villages- why can I not hire villagers as troops? theres no option...  do I have to join a faction before I can get there villagers to join???

I quite like wfas btw, I am interested in how it pans out... we need a bit more details I think of whats different- ie I spent ages looking for a city (tavern) becouse when I entered some places (fortresess) I got the option like going to a castle in original (so didnt go in thinking it had no tavern etc)..

Ceriy is correct,
but would you still do it?  Not really, by the time I could recruit villagers I had only a million thaler collecting interest in the bank and didn't need "Meatshield" villagers when the party cap is 90.

What about if your a rebel, I cant recruit from my villages...

Theres no point of hiring villagers in the first place for they are nothing more then meat shields in this game.
