You seem to be stuck on the idea of it being generational. Nearly all the hipsters I know were emos at one time and I like to think of them as a progression(hah!) from emo. Also, I know quite a few hipsters who are older than graduation age. Hipsters also existed in the 70s along side hippes. "Hey cool daddio. Join our drum circle, cool cat. Free sunglasses and berets."

I one met a guy that went deaf in the 70s and he still talked like that.

Are... "scene" I think we call them in the U.S the same thing?

Scene are essentially emoish hipsters, so yes.

And I wouldn't go near that thing with a penis, so I don't know why that came to mind for you.

Natural selection at work possibly.

I'm glad I live in the frozen wastes of the old world, where only metalheads, rappers, chavs and rednecks exist.

I hate the ****ers, my mate turned hipster and now apparently it gives him the right to think he's all high and mighty over everyone else because hes "not mainstream" and that being in uni doesn't make him a failure.

I wasn't talking about penis.

Weird, the hipsters I know have nothing in common with emos or scene people, but they like to hang out with punk people (and sometimes some weird form of stylish hiphoppers). They usually shop second hand, likes drinking tea and beer (but not together), and have certain pubs that they usually hang out in. They like to joke around, drink some nice beer and listen to some obscure music in their favourite hangouts (usually they know either the people which owns the place or the people on stage). A lot of them has a very cultural background with one or both parents having an artistic job or working with culture. They are usually left wing/environmentalist and have ugly glasses. They like bicycles. But yeah, most of them would not consider themselves hipsters, most of them would call themselves indie or something. Many of the guys got funny beards and stuff and the girls have really weird artsy fartsy blogs.

Hipsters or not, I hang out with whoever whenever.

Besides I only know of one hipster, and he works where I work.

First time I encountered what hipster is.
Then again my cultural sense is comparable to a caveman's

You're right that would be truly ironic.

I also have noticed that most hipsters spawned from scenster(sp?) through adolescence.

@ Majh

Yeah me too. I know when someone is a goth or emo but all those other different styles. I just can't be botherd to figure out what everyone is stylewise.

I can stand hipsters being around because their presence within this city has resulted in many bars adopting $0.50 Pabst nights. Now, Pabst is pretty gross for beer, but it's better than Coors or Budweiser, and you can't really argue with fifty cents for a beer.
