Higher level Tracking Skills

What benefits are there to having a high tracking skill? It seems like the first level lets you see tracks, the second adds how many people were in the group, then how long it has been since they made those tracks. However, after this the skill seems to break. My Borcha has 6 points in tracking, and can only sometimes tell which groups made which tracks (he seems to be able to read "smaller" arrows, not larger ones). Subsequent points don't seem to do anything.

Can anyone tell me what each point in tracking actually does?

From what I can tell, the higher the skill the more accurate the information becomes.

The size of the tracks appear to relate to the size of the group making them. At lower levels, the number of people making the tracks isn't 100% accurate. The higher the level, the more accurate that becomes. I think at a high enough level you can determine the exact size of the group who made the tracks, but I've never bothered. It also appears to alter the length of time the tracks are visible.
