Hideouts

What am I supposed to do with 8 men against a hideout with 45 people lmao and I can’t even chose the ones I want. This needs to be fixed ASAP

Yeah, hideout battles are pretty poorly designed - and, what's more of an issue, NPC lords apparently can't attack them, so within a few hundred days there are bandit parties everywhere. Which is good for leveling, sure, but kinda ruins the world as a whole.

Yeah I know and the best part is my troops with shields still get nailed by archers and javelins like there’s no tomorrow lol.

It's hit and miss. Usually, I avoid the quests, and if I really need to scatter the camp, I wait until there aren't many groups left in the hideout. They'll leave periodically if you check back every now and then.

Man up and tank their arrows with a shield. Problem solved. Works for me every time.

I mean, the problem isn't that the fights are impossible; except for when a hideout gets really, really out of hand (saw one with 49 Forest Bandits earlier tonight, and another with over 70 Sea Raiders) you can still win it. The problem is that it's a pain in the ass and makes no sense. If I know there are fifty bandits in this canyon, why the hell am I trying to take them on with nine dudes? At that point, I bring my whole army!

Something about them hearing you coming or something. I skimmed through the tutorial. Yeah, if there are camps getting as fat as 70+ ****ing sea raiders, I can see grounds for balance work. That's pretty over the top.

Yeah.. Tip for people having trouble with the hideouts. Go to towns around the hideout and look for the quest. "Random NPC needs help with Sea raiders/Steppe bandits/Forest Bandits" This quest seem to draw units from the hideouts, lowering them to one squad, or at least decreasing the murderstacks waiting for you there.

When it comes to the design of the quests. Yeah, it is lazy and badly designed as most of the quests are right now. Hope they fix those. However that is for another thread.

Personally not a fan of it, never have been. It's basically the same as it used to be in Warbands, except with duels added in, and way more detailed hideouts of course.

I wouldn't mind it so much if I got to pick and choose who to take with me, but so far I've been getting unlucky in the sense that any dirty peasants I have in my party are the ones who get dragged into the Steppe Bandit/Forest Bandit camp. And if you know those bandits, you know that fighting those fellas without shields is a good way to die, and all these smelly little recruits certainly didn't think to strap some wooden boards together for protection sadly.

One thing I do like, however, is that if you get dropped, and by some miracle your handful of men can purge that army of bandits, then you don't necessarily get captured and have to lose it all because of some stray arrow like in Warbands. Granted the duel still does that if you lose, but I'm not too concerned overall about them working on it, I can just use some mods that some goodly folk have already made to tweak things to my preference.

You don't have to fight the entire hide out at once.

While it does affect the loot, I have successfully solo'd plenty of Hideouts. You go in, Kill as many as you safely can, get a safe distance away, and retreat. While you can't attack the Hide out immediately, you can go back in the next night and continue killing. Some will only be wounded, but I've gotten numbers of 50+ down to a more manageable 10 for Soloing. This is harder with Forest bandits unless you have a bow, as they are easy to aggro all of them.

But as mentioned you will get less loot. If you kill 40 Bandits, and then leave, come back and kill only 10. The Game only gives you 10 bandits worth of loot.

It does seem to help if you kill as many bandits in the field, but I don't know if it's preventing them from piling up or if it will cause them to come out....
But in my resent game of war on steppe bandits I see many hideouts with 5-10 only, where as in games where I ignored them they would all be 30+ dudes.over the map. Still hope for more options someday, but it's low priority IMO, we don't have to beat hideouts.
