Heros becoming Vassals

While playing, I noticed that I had a large amount of men that I saved (from various parties or from bandits) stored away in my granted castles - somewhere around 400.

Now I was thinking - what if our heroes could be like vassals to us. We could train them to, say, level 15 or so then at that point we can ask them if they'd want to be a vassal for us.

Then, they can go to the castle and use troops that we're not using. Since I have a high surgery level, very few of my men actually DIE in battle, therefore I only take a few new ones now and then. So if our heroes were to be like vassals, and take men from our castles to use, I think it would help a lot.

Now, of course I'm not talking all of the men, only say.. 3/4th at a time, or a half, to use for themselves. At that point, they'd become like the other lords.

I would totally do this myself - IF I knew how to mod, but unforunately I don't, so I'm asking what you guys think of this idea? Implementable or not?

I like the idea of having heroes as vassals but are those heroes vassals to the faction that you are allied to or are you purposing that they become your vassals and you start a new kingdom? They both sound pretty cool though.

I'm not entirely sure myself - but I think it would make more sense if they were vassals under your king, but somewhat under you.

Though I suppose you could start a kingdom of your own, but your king wouldn't be too happy.

I like the idea of your heroes becoming your allied factions vassals that way you could end up being rivals. In-faction rivalry would be good to have. I see "sabotouge/destroy the rival lords stocks of resources quest" being good to have or "incite rebellion in rival lords poor fief quest". If your heroes became vassals control over them would be lost but they may have some repect for you still.

I reckon that this is a sweet idea, one i was nursing myself.

I reckon: you allocate a certain amount of troops to your vassal and they go off and act ike normal Lords. And their name changes to Lord Borcha or whatever. But you still have control over them; they'll follow you, wait where you tell them or join your troops again.

When you have enough money/resources/castles/men, you should be able to break away (if you so wish) from your liege and wage war on whoever the hell you want.

I do not see why it cannot be both at the same time, too.  In feudalism, the king pays his vassals in fiefs (land).  Those vassals have vassals of their own (usually knights and other noble soldiers) which they pay in land, too.  You have to think of feudalist societies as trees with the king as the trunk.

So, thinking of it that way, you could have your companions be your vassals and be in the same faction too.  They serve you and you serve the king (or the Khan, if you know the correct way to play).

I see your point and it makes heroes as vassals even cooler an idea then before due to that incite

That's perfect! It could work just like that.

Same with the way Lord Mur said - I like it guys! Keep it going, seriously. This is just getting better and better.

Maybe we could get heroes that have a randomly generated name, stats, equipment and even accompanied soldier. That way if a new game was started your vassals wouldn't always be the same.

...Would certainly break the monotony of Borcha, Ymira, Marnid and Rolf, again and again. It does get tiresome. And this way, there could be more heroes, perhaps up to 8 vassals? Then, if you've played long enough, you could be a faction!! Like my previous post!

I always thought it would be great to have faction-specific companions.  For example, Marnid would be specific to factions that ARE NOT Khergit, as his caravan was attacked by them.  A lot of replay value would come from joining a different faction, which would also give different companions then.  Also, having randomly generated companions would not allow any of them to have backstories or personality.  I made this suggestion before in another thread of mine (read it!!! I am desperate for some feedback!)  http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,30705.0.html

Hey! That's a good idea.

If we maybe had random heroes, maybe with random backgrounds.

Though I suppose it wouldn't make much sense to have a black nordic hero, but whatever I'm sure there'd be a way to make it work.

Hmm, I certainly do like the idea of having the heroes going off on their own most of all - probably as lesser vassals, under your command. These are great guys, keep them coming!

The "hunt down the villan" quest has randomly generated names for the targets, so why couldn't there be randomly generated names for heroes?

Precisely! I think we're on to something. The idea of being a King/Lord/Warlord/Supreme Grand Master of an organised faction with independant vassals who've sworn their oath to you make's me want to dig my axe into Ragnars face.

this is one of the best ideas if ever read before and i like the things to and if they are vassals they need you totax and so you will receive money from them...

Heroes could have randomly generated names.  I never said they could not.  My point was that the best backstories, stats, and personalities for heroes could not be randomly generated.  Each option has it charms, to be sure.

But Borcha and Marnid are my friends, and it would not be the same if "Marnid" and "Borcha" were just 2 in a long list of names.

(BTW, they both hate you now)

you point is even right but likes me an nice idea right just for a week a test example to see if we all like it maybe thats possible?

Yes. This is a good idea, and I'd like to see it implemented.

Why couldn't backstories be randomly generated too? Anyway as if the backstories make that major an impact on anything, sure they are a nice extra to have and explain how they came to your service but thats it.

Why not the reverse then, of vassals becoming heroes?

Why not make it so you can recruit lords into your army if their relation with you is high enough and they don't already have a fief or something?

This can be expanded into allowing the random creation of new lords, which allows the death of old lords.
