Heroes of Erathia mod.

Hail, great warriors of virtual battlefields and adventurers of gloomy forums. Now it's a time for all of us to find a path to Erathia, Griffin Empire.
This noble kingdom is settled in ancient lands which are represented by a lot of strange creatures and mythes.
For now the kingdom has dark ages, its power is scattered, lone towns-fortresses fight for their survival.
Now it's a time for young regent to rise from current ruins, to reestablish former power of Empire and return Erathia its wealth.

Planned features:
- A lot of units from heroes 3 (and some related to heroes 5 for "patching" unit level-up tree)
- Long tier-upgrading tree - for now your companions can become really strong. If they don't die of course.
- Minotaurs and evil eyes, troglodites and orcs. Many of your favourite heroes monsters.
- Some combat magic (based on firearms and particle effects)
- Castle management. You start from village and improve it to be a castle which recruits units like in heroes.
- A lot of fun that you want to add, just help me with it.

For now I cannot make some of above features cause I know python bad (men, it's only 2nd day of my learning), but it should be ok later I think.

I could do everything by myself without asking you, comrades, but there's just a little problem: I work and study in university every day, so it would take too much time if I do it alone. Also it's a very good thing - to work in a team, so I hope there will be responsive persons.

For now there's what I have:
it started from here

Heroes of Erathia V0.016:

here is the troop tree:

Troops:
Peasant; Conscript; Parishioner; Footman; Hunter; Priest; Monk; Swordsman; Pikeman; Crossbowman; Archer; Cleric; Zealot; Crusader; Cavalier; Halberdier; Marksman; Longbowman; Paladin; Champion  <- These units now are represented in the game with unique stats, skills and I've made table of equipment for them.

Now about the equipment:
I've made about 60% of erathian armors
for detailed info:

reserved (I will fill it when I get home to my personal computer with all the data)

Here will be screenshots of what is already done:

Minotaur youth:

Here some erathian heraldic armors are:

And erathian peasant tunic:

And more =)

I need you very much. If you can make models, create textures, have some skills in modding or just want to help... You are welcome!
I hope I will not carry this fantastic burden alone

I wish you good luck with the mod. Sounds really ambitious and intresting. Is this the primary thread anyway, since there are two you're writing in?

For now I need models for paladin and champion helmets (as "crusader" and "champion" have in Heroes3)

(and the same without plumes for crusader and cavalier).

I think I will make crusader helm by myself (it's like full helm), but champion helm should look like in "arena expansion" jousting helmet, and it will be difficult to make it without stealing for me. =(

This is primary thread, I started it because another is full of different discussions on the first page so no one can see - the truth is out there =)

I will update ""reserved for future" posts so everything will be on the first page

Well, I had some free time, so this is minotaur's head =).

Sorry if it is modelled bad, I try to use 3dsmax not for a long time.

Oh-no, I think, I'll carry all of it by myself. No dirty little helpers here? =)

****! that head is like...500 polies less than my minotaur and it looks better! Where did you get that texture?! Nvm,dont answer.

hey good luck with this i loved the heros games
i would help out but im doin my own mod so good luck

I refreshed the first post: now there are few heraldic armor pictures.
And a picture of minotaur youth too (GREAT thanx to Ursca for his goat-like legs!)

<deleted>

I'm in a very need of good minotaur armor!!!

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH IT?

well, i think it should be custom modelled based off of the game. this is a good idea, i'm glad someone took it up. i'm thinking that, wherever possible, you should use stuff from the game, and try to fill in the blanks. one idea i had was to make actual heroes from the game recruitable, and also have artifacts be for sale/rewards. and on the character creation page, it would be cool to choose which hero class you are (eg. knight, cleric ranger, druid, etc.) and have skills to match, like giving rangers high ironflesh, because they focus on defence, and giving a barbarian high power strike, because they're a purely offenzive class. i have the heroes 3 strategy guide, as well as the game itself with both expansions. i can't help you with heroes 5, the game prob wouldn't work on my machine and i don't really want to play it anyway. so i'll try to help you make this happen, i like the fact that you've already started retexturing and working on it.

just on a side note, i highly doubt that a peasant would go to the effort of emproidering a symbol on his tunic, peasants are supposed to be mad poor and struggling to survive. maybe if you change the name to erathian linen shirt or something, not a peasant shirt, and change the troop name to erathian recruit or something.

Hey, to change the name or 1 texture is a matter of 1 second.
Now I need codders and modellers...

But 4 sure I'll need opinions of people who love and know the original game, so thank you for your words.
I have all versions of Heroes with all official/semi-official addons... Hehe, I'm a fan.
About heroes 5... Although it has different strategy and tactics, it's similar to heroes 3 for me (I mean gameplay... It's far closer to III than to IV).

And about peasants... I wanted to say with this sign on tunic that they should make it themselves with thread and needle when they come to be recruited... Also they are at army only because their houses and farms are destroyed by the enemy and they have nothing to do. They are NOT "recruits", they are really very simple peasants. And they become conscripts after the first fight.

@ Pellidon
Heroes 5 is basically heroes 3 with better graphics. If you liked 3 you'd like 5

HoMM is interesting, because each troop type is semi-unique, with 1 upgrade for each unit type. For instance, an archer upgrades to a marksman. So, once you've made the basic troop type, you can just slightly change the texture and the weapons etc for the upgraded type. That shouldn't be too difficult

However, you're going to run into problems for a few reasons. One, if you want it to be faithful to HoMM, there are many different factions. I haven't played that game for a while, but I think each faction has 7? troop types, each with an upgrade. So, 7 basic types with 1 upgrade variation each. Thats 14 unit types for each faction. I believe there are 6 factions? Thats 42 different units to create.

In a normal mod, that wouldn't be so bad. However, since HoMM is fantasy, many of these unit types are fantasy type units, such as angels, devils, imps, skeletons, dragons of various types, treants, genies, harpies etc etc. It would be very difficult to create all of those units.

That being said, what I've seen so far is promising. Depending one what kind of changes are made to M&B (a big one here would be moddable hitboxes), it could be done. I haven't written this to discourage you; I'm sure you've realized all of these things for yourself. Now is the part where I offer encouragement and ideas

Specifically, all of the humanoid type units (zombies, wraiths, skeletons, peasants, champions) can use the human skeleton and wouldn't be too bad to create. There are alot of different models/armors/textures, etc that you could possibly borrow from people if they are ok with it. Most people here are very friendly and enjoy contributing their hard work to other people's mods.

For instance, there are some good skeletons in cartread's "hero quest" mod. theres the fantasy mod (you could get orcs from there and possibly other things such as elvish archers), age of mythology probably will have alot you can use, etc. its likely people would be willing to share their work with you. Land of the dead mod will likely have alot of undead units you can use for Necropolis faction.

Once hitboxes can be changed (hopefully), you could possibly use the horse skeleton for beasts. If it were possible to make the rider invisible and his weapon invisible, you could basically make the model (for instance, for a dragon type unit) which would use the horse animation for movement. So it would just look like a dragon unit moving toward you, with no rider. If its not possible to make invisible people, go ahead and bend the rules a bit and make the unit have a rider even if it didn't in HoMM. Another idea, is if its a dragon and its kind of big, you could put the rider inside the dragon where nobody can see him, and give him a long inviisble spear to attack with

Another idea for later on. Once RPG mod is released, since Yoshi is a god you will have access to the scripts for spells. So, you can make the hero units really be something special by giving  them different types of spells to use for their weapons. That would really make them stand out from the other units types, and it would be very cool. Also, heroes could have weapons and armor that are above average, so they'd really be a threat on the battlefield. Alot of Pellidons ideas are great for heroes so no need to repeat more of them here.

I'm impressed that you've made the effort to really get this mod off of the ground starting by yourself. I'm sure if you keep it up, you'll get lots of help, especially as other people share content from their mods with you. Good luck
