Here's a random idea...

Duels. That's what this needs! Duels, duels, duels, one-on-one, no cissy wooden weapons. I want to walk into the King of the Vaegir's castle and say, "Hey, fool, you're not paying me enough!" before I bring out my mace and knock him out, then leave the city quickly while being chased by multiple war parties.

Random duels when you enter the city would be cool too. Especially if they depend on your level. For example if you were level 2 then there would be a random chance each time you enter the city of being challenged to a duel by a street tough, but for a level 25 you may be challenged by a knight. Some challanges could be for completely stupid reasons, some could be because you killed there brother in a past battle. It'd add a bit of variety, especially if you got to fight on the streets with multiple people at one time (perhaps even with the aid of your companion heroes!)

I was thinking about that today. Instead of having an all out battle with an equal sized force, you just challenge the leader to a duel, Homeric style.

Of course, as good as the fighting system is, it doesn't quite lend itself to duels, or at least exciting ones. First of all, the ability of many enemies to run faster backwards than you can forwards is a bit of a problem. I've seen two AI characters fighting each other all over the map; they would keep swinging their weapons, but wouldn't be able to get close enough to hit each other.

Even then, duels with enemies end up as an alternating series of attacks and blocks.

I just want to see a proper joust setup, rather than the 'meele' you have in Zendar, which oddly enough gets bows? Did someone go and change the definition of the word on me?

maybe add a challenge for foot combat, mounted, joust, and then archery ranges. Anyway to make a 'soldier' unit that doesn't move, shaped like a target,... Not sure if the archery would be easy to do without a new battle code,...

Duels? Ask that one dude in Zendar for training. Theres your duel.

Jousting would be fun. Once mod tools, wouldnt be surprised if its one of the first things to come out from them.
