I can't understand why in a battle, even if I win with the double of kills, just my heroes die or they are the main deaths instead of the opponent!

It's probably just bad luck and the amount of battles the player is in usually is much more then any AI party. However it could have to do with medicine skill level of your surgeon versus the AI party leaders or the level of the AI lords. I don't know the exact numbers, but the level of the NPC effect thier survival and also medicine skill. Many wanderers are lower level then a lot of npc lords.

What I do is put anyone non-essential in group 6 and just retreat (6, f1, f7) them at the battle start. I have my surgeon in the HA group with my Khan's guards and he almost never get KO'd because he's very well protected with them and also gets some extra levels from using his light xbow from horse back..

The main characters to die are sergeants of other clans, so I cannot put them back safely.

If your lords are on horseback and command a foot group, it's wise to dismount. AI on horses love getting face-2-face with the enemy..

Plus, save and reload always helps ..

Like Ananda, I always put my companions in group 8, on horse, with crossbows...

I keep them in the rear - their crossbows are good killers with low skill level, and they level up that and riding quickly. And if I die, they are treated like horse archers until they're out of their two quivers of slow loading bolts - so they stay well out of reach of a melee.

Also, I haven't looked into it, but it seems to me if I place a highly skilled companion under me in the troop list, it seems to take over command when I drop - and do a better job of keeping my archers and horse archers out of harms way.

If you're not commanding the army, don't fight with then unless you think you really need to, AFAIK if you are commanding an army you can position them. Otherwise they will often perform poorly and get KO'd, with a 2% chance of dying. In autocalc battles they square off in a more even fashion, they can still die but it's not as certain as thier KO'd/death in live battle when they charge into enemies. What I like to do is make all horse archers and just retreat everything that isn't a horse archer if I have to fight with AI allies, or if I can't make them (I think I can) just move the HA up and kill the enemy first.

I don't like their poor performance either, I think the 2% chance is okay, but if you're creating even more situations where they fight, unfortunately it will add up to a increase in allies dying. Maybe they should add some perks to help you save your allies,

Sounds like bad luck, Im 30 years into the game, they lead formations and all surived so far even auto resolve.
Only one who died was a family companion while leading a caravan which got attacked by bandits.
He was 19 and had low skills, but the armor was good.

OMG why haven't I thought of discounting them!?
I haven't been able to play since the last update cause my game crashes every 5 minutes.

It's not mainly about my companions, it's other clans leaders and vassals.

Sad to hear that, my game doesn't crash at all.

Maybe it might be a hardware issue ? Does your computer over heat ? is it hot in your computer room ?

It's not that. It literally started immediately after the last update.
I've updated drivers and followed the instructions in the crash guide including a reinstall. I guess I'll just have to see if another update corrects it ?

Guys, it's not bad luck, again: Enemies deaths are double than mine, I won, and I lost a general. Another battle: I won with deaths rate 1:3, and I lost 2 generals! I mean, the game is not balanced. Also, when you loose so many heroes your Kingdom gets really weak and it does not matter how many battles you win anymore.

Again, guys look at this: Me: 222 deaths 171 injured / Enemies: 741 deaths 804 injured, and I lost another general... just me! -.-

I can suggest you, if your companions die often, put them in an unused formation (like one of the lasts) and tell them to stay back in battle
Heroes AI often works really bad, they just go right to the enemies like normal soldiers, even if they are on horseback and use ranged weapons.
