Hello all!

I'm a pretty new M&B player, although, not new to computer gaming. Was pretty excited when I read and started following this mod, and so far its been a blast! Very well done!! I'm starting to get a hang of whats going on, so I started a new game.

Now I read that a great many of you are playing at 100% or more difficulty. Ive stepped off the boat, wandered into the training grounds and started taking my licks. Alot of licks. At 49% or so, im getting my ass handed to me. I'm on my way to level 4.

So what I'm asking for is some melee tips! Help out a new guy!

Thanx

Firstly, I applaud your willingness to dive into a more advanced mod if you aren't that experienced with M&B.  I don't want to scare you off, but it is definitely more difficult than Native.

Secondly, I'd recommend getting used to directing your swings and use auto-block.  Once you really have the hang of how to swing exactly how you want, you'll have a significant advantage.

Then, if the training giving you trouble is sparring with others, you'll notice they either prepare a swing and run at you, or charge with their staff in a blocking position.  You can alter your attack so that they can't block it, or (my personal favorite) strike right when they decide to stop blocking and try hitting you.  This is generally right when you get in range, another thing that just takes some getting used to.

Trust me... eventually you will LOVE facing off against one tough soldier in the middle of a battlefield.  In my opinion, it is one of the more satisfying experiences in the game to truly be able to duel another powerful foe one-on-one.

I've been trying to work on the timing for hitting him as he charges at me with a shield or block up. But just as he looks likes hes going to swing, he stops mid swing and goes back to D. Its crazy!

Thanx for the advice!

After my 30th or champion fight i did just that! It ended with a 1 hit 56 point KO.

To me.

Anyhow, had a shower, now back at er.

I've also noticed that if you turn your character with your mouse as you swing it gives you a nice little speed bonus.  For example if you have your weapon cocked back to your right to take a swing in a leftward direction, if you turn your character left with your weapon it will add a speed/damage bonus.

Did that make sense cuz I just read it and it sounded confusing.  But it helps and I do it all the time now.

Update: Finally beat 3 champs in a row. Got an easy combo though, if you can call champions easy...

Off to the arena to go make a few gold coins. Be nice if the ladies threw coins at my half naked body.

Knowing Pendor they will. Sharpened ones. With slings.

You're better off beating up on bandits and looters and recruiting a lot of people.

And join the tournaments.

There are pretty good tips on combat basics in The Apprecntice Guide and namely The Library there. Try to search a bit around there and you will finde a couple of tutorials and manuals and valuable tips how to move, dodge, and fight.

Like try to turn against the swing, thus increasing the speed bonus for you, but if getting a blow on, turn with it. Same goes for polearms. Try it. Very helpful, at least it was to me.

Thanx mate!

New patch out, so I get to do training all over again!

Allright though, I remembered how I did my last guy, and I spent about 6 hours in the arenas, so I was only 10 days in...

always keep your distance with your enemy buy a glaive and keep running next to them dont get too close and the results i killed 19 people in 1 combo just keep running next to them and keep swinging
