Should I choose to become proficient in cutting, piercing, and blunt weapons, or should I just pick one and keep leveling that up? Thanks!

You don't have to choose between damage types, since weapon proficiency is based on size and delivery method. One-handed, two-handed, polearm, thrown, archery, etc.

In general you choose the damage type that best fits your fighting style and desired outcome. C weapons slash, P weapons thrust, and B weapons are most useful for capturing prisoners. A combination of the three is usually desirable. One such is a great lance/sabre/spiked mace melee set which allows for effective control of the amount and type of damage dealt.

Ok, so I should definitely spend some of my money and buy a sword (1h or 2h), polearm, and blunt weapon?

Do NOT waste your time and money with blunt weapons UNLESS you plan on participating in the lucrative resale of captured combatants.

All the blunt weapon damage does is add prisoners for you to take, which is great (at 100 a pop per prisoner it adds up) but ultimately pointless unless you have the Prisoner Management 'skillz' to wrassle up those rowdy ruffians.

And, quite frankly, it's just not sanitary to leave a bunch of defeated, half-naked men laying around on grassy fields...

that's what frat parties are for!

My recommendation is to pick two specific types of weapons and get good with them.

If you're going to be mounted, I recommend polearm (the lance rules all) and archery (you'll want the ammo if you or your horse are badly hurt enough that you want to avoid a lucky swing).

If you're going groundpounding, I recommend single hand weapons (shields are a blessing sometimes until your troops can catch up with you), and throwing, as the jarids and javelins can really help with a shield or two against weaker enemies, and have enough damage to poke someone's eye out, or more importantly, to drop a horse in one or two hits.

I prefer lance and sword. I've used the crossbow on foot which is fun but nothing beats hack n' slash in my book. Particularly against knights and horsemen where a single swipe from a sword of war at full gallop will kill them.

I keep a sniper crossbow in my inventory and pull that out when I'm after bandits. I generally move to a hill and order my party to hold the position. I can then shoot the enemy as they walk towards me. Because the crossbow is relatively slow to reload, the hill slows down the enemy's approach and if they get to close my party will take them out.

If it helps there is a weapons guide made by one of our dear forum members. It's my supposition that it will afford you some help. It did for myself atleast.
