Help with picking out a TV

So I have been tasked by my roommate to acquire a tv for us. I'm aiming for a 26" flat screen, I think it's big enough to pack a wallop and still be small enough to fit comfortably in the room. I'm currently looking at the Vizio M260VA 26" LCD, it seems to get pretty good reviews and the only complaints I've read have concerned its less than stellar sound, which I can live with. However, I'm not really familiar with the brand and I don't know what kind of tv (LED, LCD, whatever) is best to pick. I want this to be a serious investment, as it would be nice to keep this tv for the rest of college and for when I eventually move into a place of my own. Does anyone have any pointers, suggestions, warnings, or anything of the like? It would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've heard, the Sony Bravia line is expensive but built well and is high quality, so if it is within your budget, you may want to consider that.

Additionally, the price tag won't be too shocking if you're just looking for a small <30" TV.

LED is the newest, so I suppose that could be classed as 'best'. However it's more expensive, so unless you're already spending a large amount of money then I don't really see the point in springing the extra for it. I'm prefectly happy with my 32" LCD Toshiba Regza, it does the job admirably.

Edit: Seems that one is LED anyway. Go for it I say, looks perfect.
