Sergeant Knight at Arms
Ok, I ran topic search for "Mercs" and couldn't find anything. I've seen a post here and there about mercing, or looking for mercs, and thought maybe we could just jam the two together in one location. We have lots of small clans about, and everyone knows, in battle, the more the merrier.

Rules : Hirers : This topic is to be posted in ONLY by people looking to recruit temporary help for matches. State your clan, your match, date of the match, numbers of both you and enemies, location of the server, and how many mercs are needed.

Mercenaries : Do not post responses here. Contact the Hirer through a PM only. Before offering yourself for hire, make sure you know what you are getting into! If you get a PM saying they don't need any more help, don't get mad, just wait for the next job to come along.

If this is a bad idea, feel free to lock/destroy this admins, just thought it might be cool.

or you could just give the balions a call

Considering they're running their mercenary plot as a clan so to speak (You join them and get a clan tag, etc.), it doesn't really cut it.

I say this is a pretty good idea.

The problem comes from clans not needing freelancer mercs because they can just borrow from other clans that they're on good terms with (Hoboknights merc from nK, for instance). Some clans also have specific mercs that they prefer  and some mercs prefer working for specific clans (for example, nK & Hoboknights are the exclusive employers of Baron Wolfgang von Stadler). Then there's Balion, and if a clan doesn't have any of the previously mentioned options available they'll probably go to Balion first.

Take it all, throw it in a blender, and what comes out is lack of opportunities for freelance mercs.

This could potentially remedy that, though.  Once they get a place to organize.

Another thing to consider is that, as a rule, the most-skilled players end up in clans. There are a handful of exceptions, but it's a very small handful comparatively.

Yeah.  I get what you're saying, but if the niche of skilled, independent mercenaries want to create something for themselves, why not?

Y'know, I got nothing to counter that with so all I'm going to say is; Good point.

Then I'm figuring, they'd make a clan?

Well, to me, the point of brandishing the blank shield is so to not have the regimen of practice and training.  Can simply put in the time to a match and then leave.

However, I don't see the point.. as clan play is really enjoyable.

HOBO's raped mah topic!!!!

I just thought this would help the people that actually enjoy being lone-wolf (s) but still want to play some epic matches. Some people (like von Stadler) LIKE being solo hardasses, and don't want to join clans. So hey, if some small clan needs 3 players to scrim with a bit larger clan, post here, and find you some good hands.

Well put Orion

Also idk how the other clans do it, but HGN never really has a definite number of players until 3 seconds before the match

Sorry for being a pessimistic arse.

There are still members of clans who can merc for others if the need arises. I'd be willing as a HOBO to merc in for some other clans, if they wanted me to.

Ah, but not all clans need a training regimen! I prefer casual clans that have friendly scrims every now and then (Hoboknights) to those that make you go to practice sessions twice a week and expect gratuitous amounts of activity in their servers (nK, but not so extreme). Otherwise I'll get all worked up and irritable, to which some people can attest.

That link is fail, yo.

Never mind.  Very handy read.  Didn't know some of those folks are mercenaries at all.

Agreed

Yes, as so elequently detailed by TW forum's "knower of many things" Marnid, freelance mercing oppurtunities are few and far between.  I recognized that early and that is why Balion is now a competive clan.  Blod's thread was a great idea and got good response from clan leaders and from potential mercs.  The only thing it lacked was actual mercing oppurtunities.

After setting up quite a few clan matches now, I agree, you usually don't recognize you need mercenary help until a few minutes after the time everyone is supposed to show up.

Also after I've used freelance mercs in a few matches I've found you lose a certain level of cohesion in the ranks that it takes to be effective.  Trying to keep them together, listen to commands, and not just do their own thing can be more trouble than the additional manpower is worth.  Just my experiences.
