Very few of us tweak compiled text files anymore.
You could set up a module system, then edit the source code. You already know which script you wanna edit, once you open it, the names of variables will make it obvious to you what to change.
Then just compile and you're done.

If you however vehemently refuse to use module system, that's ok. In such case it might be easier to just Ctrl+X in inventory window if you want more money though.

Hey! If you're looking to edit the script that changes the amount of gold after battles, I’d suggest using the module system for Warband. You can find the relevant script under module_scripts.py and tweak the values there. If you're unfamiliar with the module system, there are some good guides in the forums that explain how to extract and modify the files. Also, make sure you have Python installed to compile the changes back into the game. Let me know if you need any help with that!
