we are even shorter than native?! Even if we're tall!? Sweet Jebus.
never compared the skeletons, as they are different

So I did not say that
But guess you missed the point about how this does not matter. Its just a scale. If you make all characters with 300cm, but the door to a house is 320cm, is your character a giant? To you he would be just a normal dude
What matters is the difference between characters and the scale of buildings.
Lets suppose the normal body is 200cm. Apply a scale and you would have
tall = 180cm
short = 160cm
kids = 128cm
(just a example)
And lets not even start the historical discussion. Height changed over time and area. Sometimes people got taller, others shorter. Its not a simple "we are always getting bigger over time"
I wasn't in the mood to explain how those scalings work in games, so I've preffered to have a laugh at it hahaha
Anyway, what you've said about historical height, you are right, it would depend on how well fed they were, altho there are blatant differences on genetics. Norse people were considered to be gigantic, apparently their average height was something ranging from 180cm to 190cm, while Brittons were very small generally, ranging from 165cm to 170cm... Italians were generally smaller too, as well as the french who share the same ancestry as the Brittons.
The "tall seed" in Europe came from the Germanic people, and the spread of their tribes over the ages caused the mix that allowed for people that have predominant characteristics from other genetic origins to get taller... That's why there's this guess about the "over the years people got taller". I should not forget to mention that other Tall genetics came from Africans, so the same rule applies, but if someone has zero african genetics in their lineage and is tall, means they share some Germanic ancestry, if the other way around, it's 100% that they share some african acestry... All in all, nowadays it's nearly impossible to keep track, because people in the past have actually blended alot and it's quite possible that pale white people have a little black ancestry and vice-versa...
But don't forget that the better fed (more nutricious, not McDonald's fed) people were, the taller that generation would get. Genetic variation or "anomalies" would also, from time to time, allow for some descendants from short lineages to be extremely tall, but that would not be common or even considered normal (hince so many myths about guys who were at some point considered giants). So there's no actual rules of thumb for this kind of thing... The anomalies, as I've said, would also allow for Africans to be pale and blonde (if they were albinos), do you follow me?
Anyway, as of in centimetres, the probability that even the Devs don't know that accurately is huge, Artists usually aim for realistic Scaling, not real measures, although I can't comply that VC has realistic scaling, given there are some NPCs that have really bizarre height...
