Heavy Infantry CKO : Thoughts and how to optimize it ?

I've got my sergeants using Doom Maces and I'm not as impressed with the results in sieges as I thought I'd be. When the front lines meet on the battlements they just don't appear to be fast enough and keep getting staggered. I can't tell if it's a lack of one handed skill (they have low 400s iirc) affecting speed or just that the skill can't overcome the Doom Mace's slow swing. For my cavalry knights Doom Mace can't be beat for the reach, but would I better switching to military hammers or warhammers for the infantry sergeants?

For foot infantry, I would definitely suggest to try the Military Hammer (beats the Doom Mace by +1b and +5 speed)! Or if you want even more speed, then Warhammers (108 speed!). However the latter deals less damage. Doom Maces can be a little too long in crowded sieges, whereas weapons with reach ~70 rarely get their hits blocked by allied units.

I found a few topics where people did tests and doom mace performed poorly on foot. Too long for a mace : even if slower, morningstars performed better. Prob is, those topic were kind of old so didn't mind much about the tests thinking stuff could have changed a lot since then.

So probably military hammer or warhammer could be beastly, but they might be a tad too short for the battlefield. It really feels we need a mace/hammer with decent damages & around 85-90 range (steel hammer is longer but too weak and battlehammer is too slow when used 1 handed). Also a good axe could do really well too. Haven't tested doommace yet but in my previous tests axes did very well (and were extremely effective vs non armored/low armored ennemies).

I think I'll try the military hammer then. On top of those two bonuses you also experience less encumbrance than a Doom Mace which, while negligible in this case, is nice for infantry. Thanks

Well for CKO getting more speed on the weapon is nice, since you can of course up damage and speed by proficiency and power strike, but reaching truly insane speeds has its own bonus, plus at some point (when you're taking people out in one hit, or two where extra damage still needs two hits etc) you don't gain from more damage.
