Headshot suggestion

Once I got three headshots on the same guy and he didn't die... I believe he was a black night and I was using a pretty crappy bow...

If you get hit in the head without a helmet with an arrow I don't think you need to die, just get knocked unconscious. Of course later you couldn't sell them as a slave if they were blind.... hehehe

To be straight forward, a head shot with a piercing missle weapon should do more than simply damaging the opponent, but I don't think instant death is appropriate.

I think most people if they got shot in the head with something they would seek some type of medical attention right away vs. keep fighting... That's what I meant by the "knocked unconscious" If they didn't die from the dam, they would be knocked out from the pain, and then they would have it taken out before the next battle if you had several missions to go through. That's a fair balance.

Head shots seem a little to easy to make. Sometimes I get them even if I'm not aiming at the head at all and sometimes I'm aiming right at the head and don't. But since I broke 100 bow skill it's been damn easy to get them. Maybe bump the difficulty up a bit and not make head shots so easy. Say at a 200 bow skill you'd have the same chance of pulling a head shot off at when you have a 100 currently.

the noobies would have a hard time using the bow... but you see, your profficiency with a bow decreases the spreading of the reticule. At about 250 archery prof. you have pretty much perfect aim for a bout 3/4 of a second. After that, it's still pretty good but... not perfect. With my trusty war bow, seen below VVV I can pop head shots fairly easy, but some times they just don't kill. It's a damage thing.

Love my bow

good lord you've got a big ass bow... I bet the ladies go nuts over that!

hehehe

That's something I was wondering about... the reticule is a cool aiming device, but I had probably shot about 200 arrows before I realized that you want it as small as possible when shooting for the best accuracy...

It wasn't until I was aiming riding on horse back and slowed down that I say it get smaller and realized how it was intended to be used.

I think in a read me or doc that should be explained, because it's not really obvious when you should shoot unless you notice that aspect of it.

go play a game like Counter Strike, where your accuracy changes depending on --- stance, movements, rate of fire. You're more accurate crouching than standing up, more accurate stationary than moving, etc. Quoting from a movie I saw a while ago... "Dear Lord do use your common sense, my boy!"

Also, even though longbows do 1 more damage and are longer than War Bows, longbows just look like 6 foot long sticks, while the war bow has some curves in it to make it look more stylish  Plus my accuracy seems to be better with a war bow than a long bow.

And yes, the ladies do love my big bow. Many a time have I seen xerina watching me when I go to The Happy Boar Tavern for a good mug of ale

Also... speaking of females. The female model in this game has odd breasts. I must say it! They do! They look like pyramids at first, go out a little ways, then become flat as boards. This is not natural! I'm not a woman, but I don't think "flat as a board" is a good thing.

something that would make the reticule even better IMO is taking the three colors that are already on it and using them... I think it's Red/Green/Blue if you changed it to red/yellow/green you could make it fairly obvious when you are being accurate...

(if anyone knows what the three colors mean let me know, because I haven't figured it out)

Green is your best time to shot
yellow still good, but not as spot on
red damn lucky if you hit anything....

at least with a color you could definitely tell if you had passed prime release time. Right now it's a little vague... that's what I was getting at. It makes a lot of sense that the slower you are moving the better you'll be aiming, it just isn't obvious by that actual targeting device itself. The smaller the better obviously, but it would be nice to know when your prime release time is with the color green. It's a little to interpretive right now with the spreading out.

I'd say keep the spreading out, just have the dots on the reticule light up to show you when your best release time is.

To an actual archer/shooter it's obvious because you can feel your arms quiver when they are tired and the bow shake in your hands.... to the player it's not so obvious...

Does anyone know if you release an arrow before the reticule goes all the way in if it does less dam? Does the dam stay constistant regardless of when you release it?

I do find it a bit silly when i get a headshot on someone with a javelin and they still live.

And they're wandering around with a 5 foot wooden pole sticking out of their eye socket?

Sometimes i get funny headshots where i check them later to see where the arrow went, and sometimes i see it just going through the ear or the hat. Quite odd.

throwing knives seem to "float" right in front of the head, if you get a headshot. Same as anywhere on the body, the float about an inch away from it.

The colors Red/Green/Blue are there just for show. Prime release time is right after the targeting reticule stops closing and right before it starts opening. When your targeting reticule completely closes, the 3 colored dots become a dot in the center that is white. This is perfect

The damage the bow does is what determines the smallest size of the targeting reticule. This is why I use a war bow, and not a long bow. Archery profficiency also changes this. With a bow that does 30 damage, the reticule would never get as small as a bow with 15 damage. Something to do with the draw strength

I love it when I throw my throwing axes at people... I tweaked them so they're damage is 255... it's fun to hit some one in the foot and watch them die.

Must be gangrene or something.... I dunno what else could cause it...

Oh the colors make perfect sense now... Ya the red/green/blue makes white... Gotcha. I haven't gotten my bow skill up that high yet.

No offence guys but instant kill headshots would indeed be more realistic but they'd also remove alot of the point to the game. I mean, if you brought them in what stops people getting a crossbow, stocking up on bolts then hiring 20 odd peasants to keep the enemy busy while they wander around happily shooting people in the head? I think the extra damage system at the moment works pretty well on it's own and on some bad guys (Mountain Bandits particularly) You can get a instant kill headshot allready.

IMO, damage doesn't need to be realistic to the head if it isn't to other parts of the body.

I think it would be great to have blunt arrows instead of killing them jsut knock em out like you do in the arena
