Headset randomly stopped working?

Well Ive been using a headset in games now and its making it so much more fun, especially in CS:S but all of a sudden it stopped working, on windows live also. So i put my other headset in which has only been used once which its very high quality but i just like the other one more, same problem. Is their something that vista has to do with this? because i highly doubt the headsets are broken, their both very high quality.

any help would be much appreciated

Check that windows hasn't deactivated it in the control panel.

k well now it sais its detecting it in the windows live, ill go try actually using it. so wierd

Can you do this in xp? I have a headset but for some reason it doesn't work on my computer. The issue lies within either the mic jacks not working (this computer is in a replacement case) or it doesn't work with the sound card I've got, though I'm curious as to if a usb mic might work.

well its working fine now, except in steam private chat. it musta  been like having a tantrum and hated me so wasn't working for a little while
