Have you ever noticed that Sea Raiders are basiclly Vikings?

I mean, take a minute to compare

Sea raiders have maille shirts, occular spangen helms (nordic helm) Nordic sword, which are just like viking swords, maille hauberks, franciscas, javelins, round shields, and they are a good fight

VERY Viking. Vikings did have horses, but they never took them on the raids, notice sea raiders have no horses. I know some of you have made this connection.(i hope you have) only thing i notce that is wrong is that sea raiders dont have braids, then again i have never researched viking hairsyles, so that might be fiction.

P.s. I was thinking, i read in a hastory book somewhere that one of the reasons vikings were so feared is becuase in battle they would catch javelins thorwn at them and hurl them back! Imagine if you implemented this into M&B! hehe, i can see it now, you throw a javelin, and next thing you know, the same one is sticcking outta yer forehead

Yeah, sea raiders are definitely the toughest rebel type group out there. I'd put them at a tie with those mongolian type brigands.

Yes, sea raiders definetly do have a resemblance with Vikings. They even hail from the North. :D

I had some sea raiders in my party as well. They're all mercenaries or hired blades now though. :)

Armagan, can you make it so you can join the sea raiders? I'm gettin sick of runnin arounf for the king, do this, do that, fetch me this, fetch me that. I wanna have missions like, waylay this party, kill thise dude, or better yet, just kill as many x people as you can. x can be swadians, viegars, peasants, hell even other sea raiders...

and i notcied there a 2 sea radier spawn points, maybe you could call one group the nordic raders, and the other group sea raiders, and have a rivalry, and they need to spwn more often too

Sorry for makin this a suggestion in the discussion but i had to say it

Ian

P.s. I hope you take this seriously armagan

It'd be nice if you could join the bandits in the Dhorak Keep. You would have ranks and such as well, but other units and missions. :)

I agree that the ability to ally with some of the bandit/raider groups would be very interesting, hopefully we'll see that some time.

I also agree about the Sea Raiders/Vikings. The helms, in particular, are distinctive.

I think that, tactically, the reason the Sea Raiders are so formidable compared to the other rebel groups is that they are strong both at ranged and melee combat, combinging heavy-hitting ranged weapons like javelins with swords and battle axes which do formidable close damage. Their armor and speed is also an effective compromise between mobility and defence.

Personally, unless you're character is vastly more powerful then them I've found that the mobility of cavalry (especially horse archery and lancing) is the only really effective way of dealing them. Anyone have any other tactics?

My tactic goes something like this...

"See Sea Raiders, Run like hell"

I'm more afraid of those suckers than I am of Dark Knights. Dark Knights can be killed pretty easily if you're another cavalryman, and you tiem your strikes right. It's just a matter of hitting them first.

Against Sea Raiders though, charging is almost suicide. I've been killed several times by one volly of javelins! It's pretty dramatic to see your guy get knocked to the ground from his horse, with a good 10 javilins/axes/jarids/arrows sticking from his chest. The Sea Raiders are in my opinion, the perfect infantry warrior because of their "Throw pointy crap, then hack with other pointy crap" tactic.

Although I've only played the demo thus far ( and that's what I'll keep doing for a while, I don't fancy failing this semester due to having played M&B 24/7 ;) ), I've come to respect the sea raiders as fearsome enemies... However, like all infantry armed with ranged weapons, they could be a lot more deadly still if they consequentially targetted horses when they're being charged by a rider who has his shield up for defense...

Still, they are evil, especially when they receive your charge, simply block with their shields and then hurl a javelin or axe at your back as you ride past them...

Joining the Sea Raiders would be a nice touch... and fighting alongside a group of them would definitely add appeal to fighting on foot, which, IMHO, is currently simply vastly inferior to fighting from horseback (mainly due to the AI not being able to deal with mounted enemies properly)...

I beg to differ

I get my Swadian Sharpies up on a hill, tell them to hold the ground, Even dark knights perish. Either with arrows in thier faces if Voulges cutting them in 2

So, not nessicerily are calvary superior

I'm not talking about AI vs. AI, but about Player vs AI... unless there's large amounts of enemies with ranged weapons, (and even then having high shield skill and a very durable shield will probably keep you safe long enough to take them out, since they'll simply refuse to shoot the horse out from under you on purpose), all you have to do is have a faster horse than any of them, and be able to keep your concentration for a few minutes, and the AI stands no chance at all...

Fighting on foot instead of on horseback is, from an effectiveness-oriented POV, just giving up an advantage.

The Sea Raiders are my favorite enemy (although the Khergit riders are a close second) because of their deadliness with both missile and melee weapons.

There are several ways that I fight them, depending on the initial deployment, my troop types, and my mood.

If we are on a hillier than usual terrain, I might have my troops hold on the reverse slope shielded from missile fire while I range ahead on my spirited charger and shoot the Raiders from horseback and try to kill or wound as many as possible before sounding the charge.

If the terrain's flat and I have cavalry, I might just sound the charge and damn the axes.

Once, I had my Swadian crossbowmen on a slope that shielded them and yet allowed them to fire over the edge as the Raiders advanced. Only two made it more than halfway up.

On the other hand, those battleaxes and javelins whistling out of nowhere with 65 damage means you gotta keep moving.

Sea Raiders: my favorite enemy.

Hehe, I won't be so keen to fight them with a lvl 5 character anymore.

"Huh? Sea Raiders? Nah, they're propably just river pirates with a different name. Maybe a little tougher."

But yeah, those bastards are pretty much like vikings.
