Have you ever been to a dictatoship?
If so where and what were you impressions?

As far as I know I've been to 2 so far (Syria and Egypt).

As far as impressions go, I felt surprisingly safe in Syria and the people were friendly. We did some research on crime rates in Syria and they were evidently very low. I also met two people in Lebanon who had been in jail under that particular regime and I can safely say its not hard to understand why crime rates are low given the treatment in prison. On the other hand I felt partly uncomfortable in Egypt and had a few encounters with security were I did not feel particularly safe. I did get detained at the Pyramids for doing something stupid but I was released with a warning which was nice of the guy who detained me who was just doing his job I guess On the other hand I saw two incidents where two people were getting beaten up by security officials there.

These are 2 countries I am not so sure about: Indonesia and Cambodia,
In Cambodia I really sensed peoples fear when talking about politics and the past. I was later told that some of the Khmer Rouge made it into the current day political positions and that people are afraid to say **** about the government for fear of their life. Whether or not that is true I don't know.

I stayed in Indonesia for a month but I don't have a clue as to whether any allegations of totalitarianism are true or not. The allegations seemed area specific at the time.

Been to China, and technically I live in one.

Untechnically, I'm from Canada. Not a full dictatorship, but our government is named after our ruler, we have a queen, an appointed senate and a rule-by-concentrated-minority system.

My school ? Never elected our overlords, they have total power over us, unquestionnable authority, and stringent, sexist and non-sensical rules. Girls can wear any type of legwear, as short as a ****ing miniskirt, guys can't wear anything other than trousers, and we get told off and even expelled for the day if we get caught in shorts. ****ing idiotic.

I've visited Sweden plenty of times.
We have a unitary parliamentary democracy. Our king has no power and can thus not be seen as a dictator, just useless.

Been to China a few times, but the fact that it's a dictatorship isn't very noticeable unless around sensitive areas like Tiananmen Square. Though I did get barked at for accidentally taking a picture of a military compound, so there's that.

Is Indonesia actually a dictatorship? I thought it hasn't been one since the seventies.

It's the same here really. The royal family are nothing but figureheads.
We could get a lot of money if we organize death matches with the royal families. We would save money for not needing to pay all of those millions to them, and we would get revenue for the tickets!

Then we can go on with the rest of the nobility. Just imagine it though, the fun! A huuuuge arena! I wouldn't mind seeing prince William fighting to the death against prince Carl-Philip!

Yeah, the same goes for the women. And the old royalties too. Imagine Queen Elizabeth II versus uh... Queen Margrethe II!

I have no idea to be honest, but you can have provincial totalitarianism through corruption. I've seen a lot of politicians/mayors make obscene abuse of their powers where I am currently in. To the point of political assassinations etc which happen a lot around here where I am currently. Recently there was a photo taken by a victim of his assassin who walked into the shot while the victim was taking a photo of his gf.
