Have not yet been able to play a single game

I see all these forum threads about "Wall glitch", "Melee issues I've noticed", "[Bug] Corpses", "Flying around in the air?" and someone complaining about lag. Well, consider yourselves lucky people, because since version .500 or so, when I was invited to join the beta, I have been struggling with the same issues over and over that prevent me from getting close to controlling my character. Just now I've come from a ten-minute attempt to play a game, and I logged my results. Here -

1st attempt - three servers. Clicked on EU_S3_Manual_bl..., siege/castle - let me join but stuck on faction selection. Quit.

2nd attempt - searched for servers, game says it found three, none show up. Subsequent searches has the game telling me it's found nine, ten and one servers.

3rd attempt - says it's found six servers, shows four. Joined EU_S2, Battle/Ruined Fort. Stuck on faction selection. Quit.

4th attempt - says it's found four servers, shows one. Joined EU_S1, Team Deathmatch/Ruined Fort. Stuck on faction selection. Quit.

5th attempt - says it's found ten servers. None show up. Searched again, and again joined EU_S2, Battle/Ruined Fort. Let me join, allows me to select my gear. See people playing around the map for the first time since first invited to the beta and trying to play several versions ago. Round ends a few seconds later and the game kicks me back to the menu screen. Quit the game entirely.

6th attempt - Four servers found, shows two. Joined EU_S1, Team Deathmatch/Ruined Fort. Stuck on faction selection. Quit.

7th attempt - Two servers found, none show up. Six servers found, shows four. Joined US_S4, Capture The FLag/Village. Let me join, allowed me to select my gear. Kicked me out with "Connection to the server is lost".

8th attempt - No servers found, shows four. Joined EU_S2, Battle/Field By The.... Attempt at joining results in "Error - Connection to the server is lost".

9th attempt - Found ten servers, none show up. Refresh found ten servers, none show up. Quit the game entirely.

10th attempt - Found one server, three show up. Joined EU_S3_Manual_bl..., Siege/Castle. Stuck on faction selection. Quit game entirely and repressed urge to kick my desktop.

Except, my desktop isn't the problem here. Is it powerful enough to play the game? Yes. It has a Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz, 8GB PC6400 and a Radeon HD4870 1GB and runs on Windows 7 RC X64. Is my Internet connection good and stable enough, and setup properly to play games online? Yes. I have a 7MB ADSL connection that never disconnects, on a new site of apartments and my flat-mate and I play several online games with no problems. Have I included Mount & Blade Warband to the Windows Firewall exception list? Yes, both private and public. Have I updated all my drivers? Yes, everything is up to date. Am I getting good enough pings to join the games? Yes, my ping for the EU servers is consistently 60 and below.

How have I installed the game and patches? Well, at first I installed whatever version (around .500) was active when I was invited to join the beta, then kept applying patches. After several patches later, I uninstalled the game completely and downloaded the entire latest version, then applied the patches as they came out. Then I subsequently did the same for version .612. Now, on .613 (which has listed "lots of bug fixes") I am still suffering from the same problems. The fact that the servers are filled with people playing and people here are complaining about game-based issues is very interesting as I have not yet been able to play ONE SINGLE GAME.

So, count yourselves lucky, because at least you've gotten far enough to experience game issues.

What do you possibly need 8gb of ram for :/

My only solution would be that you might not have a port open that mount and blade uses but I am unaware of what ports it uses even.

The ram was just cheap when I was building my system. Ten minutes after I'd ordered everything they jacked the price up again... it may have been a mistake on their part, but I got loads of ram for very cheap, and I won't need to buy more for years

It's a Core 2 Duo system on an Asus P5Q Pro, built before the i7's were released. It doesn't even support DDR3 - in fact, I don't think any but the high range of Socket 775 motherboards support DDR3. But this is all irrelevant - the system is more than capable of playing Warband.

I think I won't bother trying again in the future. I'll keep an eye out for the full release of Warband next year, but there's no point trying to play the game in it's current state. I have no problems playing a beta and helping to report bugs - I do, however, have a problem with a game as screwed as this one. Respect to Armagan and the team, but it's just a mess.

I'm just not going to try anymore.

Er, well, I believe you're pretty much the only player who can't play the beta at all. So calling the game a mess doesn't make much sense.

The problem has to be with your computer or internet connection. Not saying it's your fault or your computer is crap at all, maybe it's a small thing that only poses a problem with M&B.
Considering you have multiple issues that I have never seen on these boards yet, I'd be inclined to think it's coming from your connection. You stated you've made an exception with the Windows firewall, but do you have an anti-virus as well? Or any soft that could interfere with your Internet connection?

I can't believe you've never seen or heard of the stuck at faction selection bug, as it's well known. Here is another thread with someone who has the same problem - http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,76552.0.html. There are also threads starting with disconnection bugs, a thread on the second page complaining about excessive lag, numerous other connection issues. I tried again just now to join three servers before uninstalling the game and I got an "Unable to connect to server" error on each one.

Yes, I have disabled my anti-virus software just in case it's blocking it, but no change. If it's a matter of my needing to open a port on my router, I'd do that, but nobody seems to know anything about the port(s) in question. I've been posting about my problems since .500 and nobody has had any suggestions at all, and each patch brings the very same issues with them, so why should I bother anymore? There may very well be a problem with my machine but seeing as nobody has any clue, there's no point in trying. Everything seems to be as it should, and yet I haven't been lucky enough to play a single game in this beta.

So, nuts to that.

Whoops. Must say I don't read each bug report thread.
Still, calling the game a screwed mess is taking it a bit far. I can understand your frustation, though. Hopefully the devs will find out what's wrong soon.

Happened to me a lot in the previous patch. I would get lag spikes as well before.

Just in case, do you have another PC available to just try to rejoin a game ?

Since I was invited to the beta back in the .570 version, I have major pbs to make the servers list appear in the server browser, so I have to click "Start Search" and "Cancel" lots of time to make some appear.
Sometimes the EU servers don't show up, sometimes I only have 2 servers showing up, and most of the times : none.
But with patience I can make all of them appear and join an EU S2 battle game.
I tried everything else (I'm an IT technician) without more success. Only thing I haven't tried is to install the game on another PC and/or try it on a fresh formated system (but i doubt it would come from the system).

Yeah, just tried it on my laptop (2GHz Core 2 Duo T5750, 4GB, Radeon HD3470) and had the same issues. Either it didn't see any servers at all, would see two empty US servers and no European ones, or it would find one European one and would get stuck at the faction selection screen.

Can't play either, but for diff. reasons. I think i'm giving up.

Mount and Blade team, thank you very much for the invitation sent on sept10 - i'm dying to partake, but i simply do not have the needed internet here in south africa (Internet here is expensive as h* and lacks the needed speed for for any online game really )
Recently a virus from work (a technikon with lots of students and many infected flashdisks..) caused havock on my pcs forcing reformat and all the activities required thereafter - weeks of research on how to kill virus x and falling pray to numerous other software claiming to fix the problem.

Its probably unfair to some other players dying to get in if i hold a 'beta position slot' or otherwise rob someone else's chances of playing.

Call me when you need "local multiplayer" testing done or such.

Regards
Rian

Since the patch I am also having no luck getting servers to show up, generally have US siege and a couple EU servers, been that way for a number of days now

*UPDATE*  Used the suggestion of clicking search and cancel multiple times and I have managed to pull up some extra servers

I would suggest taking your laptop somewhere else and trying to play there. If it still doesn't work then i really have no idea what could cause the problem. Your router should also have a setting for situations like this which will open all ports and allow any traffic. this is only meant for short term testing though. Otherwise you could try getting another router from a friend or just buying a cheap one. Also if you're on a large network then check with the admins and see if they have any ideas.

Read this and thought Id comment. Thats not true. I have a P5Q3 mobo that supports DDR3 ram but it is not an i7.

As to the OP:
I agree with what Foamy said. Try going to somewhere else with an entirely unrelated internet connection. School, work, cafe, etc. And see what happens, that could eliminate your internet set up as a possible cause.
