Gun types... are they actually different?

Muskets you can't use on horses... but they don't seem to be THAT much more accurate than the top-level rifle that you can use mounted (forget the name).

Also, a good pistol is WAY faster to reload and just-as, if not more accurate, than two handed rifles of same quality?!

I just do not get it.... you can seem to snipe just as well with a high quality pistol from atop a horse as you can with the muskets...

However, Sharpshooter NPCs can kill people from the opposite side of the map with only 100 points into shooting. Is there some special zoom key I'm missing for muskets?

no. maybe it's the AI, or he just had luck. or the whole WFaS is against you. what difficulity did you chose?
or wait for the next update. or go to modding/unofficial editing tools, find the itemEditor and tweak it as you like.

actully I like using my starting pistol more so then any othere wepaon I cant hit crape wiht the two handne musket I got but pistol i can reload faster and hit stuff half way across map I dont get that.

I think that they need to blance the diffricne bettween the guns little more.

I never remember seeing people using a pistol for someone who is over 5 city blocks awa away hit someone with a pistol in a movie even using two handed muskets I think you would be pushing it with city block ?

any one know facts on how far these guns could shoot nad be accuart ?

They're not, but even a couple of points of accuracy can make a difference. The major changes are the damage and reload speeds though.

It also does considerably less damage. A single shot from a musket will kill the majority of foes. Pistols can take two or three.

Just the regular shift key zoom. Also note the AI will blaze away as soon as it has line of sight, which utilises the old "chuck enough lead and you'll hit something" method.

I think what Archonsod started to go into. Keep in mind its not because they are just sniping you. It is all stray bullets. You get 50 vs 50 mustketmen, the player whines because he got shot. Well 50 bullets were shot from the opposing side, only 4 or so people got hit, sadly and randomly you were one of the four.

what I think is wired is how my player shoots better at really long range with pistol then he does with a two hand gun of any type.

50 vs 50 up the unit battle size in the cfg file to 2.5 so that you can have 100 vs 100 lol! now that is where fun is.

Pretty much. You take on a 10 bandit party you get four or five with muskets, and you can pretty much ride around all day without them ever landing a hit. Get a group with fifty muskets on the other hand and they'll hit you simply through weight of shot. Really when up against the larger parties you pretty much have to hang back and let your men absorb the brunt of the casualties.

I often go ahead to scout if the enemy started behind a hill or something, and often i find that if they see you they simply don't switch targets, and end up having the entire army shooting at me for the rest of fight. Even if i hide, they'll try to run through my army to find me. ( only happens when they're not in formation).

Thats how the AI works, the last person to attack them is their target. If there was no last person to attack them, then it is the first person they see.

Yes,
I once fought with a companion (who was armed with a musket) against some looters...
while I rode towards them my companion already attacked them with the musket from long range...
as a result the whole group of looters ran towards my companion.
Even when I had reached the looters and were standing only a few meters away from them
(shooting at them with my pistol) they wouldn´t turn to me and try to attack me,
despite the fact that they would still have to cover a large distance to my companion
(and I was the nearest danger to them)
(well, not entirely true... one of them turned towards me, I think it was a looter I fired at and missed)

Depends on the AI settings. They'll switch targets more often on the higher setting. On low they target something at the start of battle and will attack it til it's killed.

Im not a fan of pistols being as accurate as rifles, its dumb enough they can run away from people full speed while reloading.
