Lovely work indeed.  :D
I wonder if there is a way to make javelins actually disappear from the shield if the character uses them all up? That would be very cool, but idk if its possible or not.

I'm sure it may be possible via scripting, to call for equipment to be swapped after depletion.

Is that something i'd like look to implement? not really. I've made skirmisher models for most non hoplon shields and I think that's enough :P

You could vertex animate it like a normal bag of javelins, but I don't know if you could still use it as a shield then...

Oh, hey, I had a little question on some of those shields: not any nit-picking or anything, just some curiousity. Those wicker shields seem to have been used a lot in the ancient era by the Eastern factions, but I just wanted to ask you: how effective are they really?

Good question. Thankfully I've never had to defend myself with a sheet of wicker, but I would imagine that pound for pound it would offer good protection. It's light and springy and would take a lot of force out of a blow. As a piece of equipment it would be very practical. Light on the march and easily repaired. Cheap and fast to produce. Not the shield of a professional but not something to be scoffed at.

I'm going to reply to the new edit and say I love the Illyrian checkered shield and the eastern wicker shields.
This is going to be the best mod ever. Great job you guys.

and don't forget spears that get stuck in them.  if i had to guess, i'd say that weapons that rely on momentum would dissipate their energy on the shields, while weapons that rely on a hard point with some mass behind it would get stuck due to friction.  they have always been scoffed at, but wicker is a fiber made from carbon, and tends to act similar when woven to modern type materials that are designed to take a beating (pliable with interlocking threads to distribute energy over a large area).  it seems to lack stopping power though so it would need to be held away from the body, which means tight packed use of the shield would be a bad idea.

it is all physics, just look at the sling versus arrow thread of way back when, every one was trying to find references to the best arrows versus the best sling stones in a side by side comparison instead of looking at the physics behind them.
