The morale system is not very sensible.  Suppose you have 10 lords.  You give a poor one a single village and yet all the other lords take a morale hit.  What is simulated is that every lord in the game is a greedy, selfish, jerk.  And suppose you are battling over a single fort and you give the same fort to a lord several times.  All the other lords are unhappy over and over.  Not sensible.  There are many ways to improve this.  I would think as long as you were fairly even handed in passing out fiefs, the lords should generally be happy.  This issue does not occur if you have only one or two lords but it makes it very hard to have a larger number.

This is the Warband system basically. Having more than a few lords is supposed to be difficult, it's the endgame challenge. At least VC brought in the feature where you can bribe them into liking you.

And if you want a reason for the system being there in the first place...they're nobility. They have major entitlement issues due to their aristocratic upbringing. Even the good-natured ones.

you can recruit good natured lords that won't mind when you do that, but they are extra hard to recruit (betray current king to join you). You can more easily get a bunch of whining lords, but be ready for the whining

lords have different personality traits. That affects how they react to things, and the chance of recruiting them. Same applies to your companions when you promote them to lords.

You can also hold a smybel if you are married. Lords that attend will get a relationship boost. I do have the issue though that the lords hardly respond to my commands or invitations, on the battlefield and off it :/
