Great Mod, with one huge drawback!

hi guys, i didnt posted for some years now, last time i played was with some 0.5xxx or 0.6xx version, cant remember exactly.
however iam back playing M&B again and tried out this mod, its awsome but still, i stoped playing it after about an houer.

reason->

why does one start out with high end gear? why is all this low lvl gear still in shops? i dont get that...this ruins everything.

i start out with awsome armor, nicks axe of pawnage and whatnot....wheres the reason for that? it totaly ruins the game progression, after all i have gear i normaly would have at lvl 10 to 20 in native...right from the start. all that is left to do is to get high end gear and lvl up.

when i see the 1x to 3x armor class armor in shops, wich are obsolete becouse i start iwth a 40+ armor, this makes me wonder why all this crap is still in the shops, it only clutters the merchant inventory, it has no purpouse in this mod after all.

it could be soo much fun but this ruins it compleatly for me...anyone else thinking like this or i just "dont get it" ?

now in the end, dont get me wrong, i like the work you guys did but the aproach to the "item progression" is utterly broken in my view. iam back to 100YW mod for now.

I agree with you that the actual starting gear for the player and companions is too good.  Sorry Nick. Maybe it can be changed in further versions?
And y're right that the cheap stuff in shops really is obsolete.

But that does not harm the mod or gameplay at all. Cause after 1 won tournament you can buy these items anyway. Still the starting gear is not high end (mine wasn't), its only good quality but not best. The game motivation may be higher if you got to earn that adequate equipment and not get it for free, ok. Even with elite armor and weapons fights are way not easy, so really its only the starting motivation which lacks a bit.  I played 100YW too, its a bit harder to get good equipment sure, but overall even on highest settings its a lot easier than LaR and not half a challenge.

So I wouldn't call it a "huge drawback", it's only a flaw.

If you are planning to play M&B (again) only about 4-10 hours and then stop playing, LaR is maybe not the first choice. But if you intend to play longer, than LaR can penetrates with excellent quality

yes well this is subjective, for me it does harm the mod becouse it cuts off a LOT LOT of gameplay! and i dont think i get 15000 for a heavy masterwork bastard sword by doing one turnament for example. you actually need to do quiet a lot of turnaments to get a full set of high end gear(in native when i win my first tournament and bet 100 on myself every fight i get about 4 to 5 k).

well i intend to play longer, but i like to develope a char from the start, thats the bread and butter of a RP game! after all what keeps the mod maker from giveing the player 50+ armor and the best gear available at all, and spawning 150 man+ war parties instead of looters!? this would make it harder for sure, but for me its the wrong aproach to makeing it harder. as said it cuts of a LOT of realy enjoyable low lvl gameplay(remember, one is supposed to be the unknowen adventurere, not the pimped out knight when you arive in the lands  ).

in the end it cant be helped right now, but i sure hope there could be some "light" version of this mod, wich gives you nothing but youre "regular" starter gear and does not spawn 15-25 man groups of bandits right from the beginning.
and about if its a huge drawback or a huge flaw, well thats teh same, just different words...but i get where you comming from and well, as said this is verry subjective. one person might even like it after all...could be.

hehe, sorry for the double post.

i just want to make sure that you guys get that i really like the new art and style of the gear and horses and whatnot. it looks great, mostly all of the changes made by the mod are awsome too! however for me its just the way the mod starts out, wich leaves me a bit let down.

anyways, i gona start a new game now with this mod and i gona sell my overpowered gear right in the beginning(armor,axe...), this should help my problem quiet a lot.
i gona post again in the evening and tell you how it went

Hehe, easy solution for your prob

Just started a new one to see what equip we're talking about
Ok Nick's Axe is one of the best, the rest gives 40 armor to head + body. Not that much .. High end is 60-70..
The horse was a pity.

You can gain 40.000 denars from one tournament.

That's why is called Nick's axe. That's why its the best.

And he is going to sell his gear and walk in my Calradia, in my Calradia I say.

And how easy is to win a tournament? Without loading. Real men play without saving possibility, I stated that.

easy as long as you dont have to fight wielding a crossbow or worse - a bow

hehe so mutch to learn  its fun when you don't start whit a horse or a melee weapon  bows are nice but throwing is awful...but work

And to topic who needs armour? try fight a battle whitout an armour or hourse, and who needs an armour you aren't suposed to get hit in the first place

It is true you might have good gear starting out, but you can easily trash it at nearby village if bothers you that much. Quick fix if ask me. But I personally love the starting gear, Nothing like an armored horse archer! besides, I like to think of myself as an Lord .. so the armor fits for me hehe. As far as horse goes, can upgrade it for just about any horse... if riding skill is high enough

well since you where talking about tournaments and said shooting weapons is awful, maby you just need to practice the shooting weapons a bit more, and then your tournaments will be easy as hmm easy

yea tell me, yesterday i won my first turnament in LaR, last match featured me with bow(no horse) against a guy with sword shield, well i was really lucky but i pulled it off. mind i dont use any bows or crossbows. my char is useing throwen weapons.
anyways, selling the over the top gear made a big difference, it was actually fun again to take on outlaws and searaiders. and after some battles i had adequat gear again anyways, as the drop rate is verry generous in this mod, it seems.

now the only thing i came to like not so much is the new shield animation, how the char holds the shield sometimes, it looks verry unnatural and the whole face is exposed. the new attack animations are ok, i wouldnt need em but they dont bother me.
it looks like the shield anim is only included for the sake of a new animation, beside it looking nowhere near good.

is there a way to disable the new animation, only the shield animation just for me personaly? i mean a way i can do it myself just for my game...?

EDIT:

found the animations thread, wich told me to copy actions.txt from native to LaR...sorry for the question...but is there a way to "only" disable the new shield animation? i guess it would mean fiddeling in the actions.txt...? maybe coppy the shield part form native actions txt to LaR actions txt and leaveing the rest or so? possible?

Nah.

ah, its fine, i switched out the actions.txt and all is good! sorry if i come around sounding a little picky about this and that, its just iam looking for the "perfect" M&B expirience(for my taste, that is).
but by now i worked around the start gear thingy and i fixed the animations for myself, dude many thanks for youre work, the thing "is" perfect now!

great mod, i appriciate!

just a thought, instead of getting the armour from the very beginning, why not actually work for it, for example, for every tier in the training field you complete you'll get one piece of the armour set you usually begin with...

you mean keeping myself restricted to only use it when i compleated the different stages of training, one per tier(excluding 1st tier as its quiet easy!?)? i dont know this isnt my thing but i perfectly see where youre comming from. iam more compftable with selling it and pretending i never had it in the first place

btw. steep avartar, good old arnie in his young years

How on earth can you complain about getting "high tier" gear when the enemies are covered in mail from head to toe?  Even playing with some reloads, I had a very difficult time getting started, and always have on LAR.  Bandits have very good gear, and your "high tier" stuff doesn't do much good against them.  Recruits get chopped up by even bandits, so it takes a while to get an army.  And don't talk about winning many tournaments in the beginning if you reload them.  If you want a challenge, play with no reloading.  if anything, LAR is too hard, not too easy (but I like it being hard, so I wouldn't want that to change  )

Speaking of recruits...

I've noticed that the Nord Recruits (and maybe the Vaegirs too?) got an equipment overhaul.  They no longer run around with pajamas and pitchforks.  They fare better against bandits too.

It'd be nice to see other factions' recruits receive a similar makeover.
