Great ideas you haven't, and probably won't do.

These are for the ideas that sound epic but are in all honesty not very practical.

Mine is squires. Get 3-5 low level calvary such as basic Kherjit Calvary. Put them in a different slot then the rest of the calvary and have them wait in the back during the battle. If you become dismounted you call in the squires who rush to your aid and once you arive have them dismount and grab one of their horses.

Haha i like that idea, but as you said i probably won't be using it.
mostly because, whenever i'm knocked down, it's usually in a cluster where i have to fight for my life, and once it's over so is the battle usually (not because i'm awesome, but because my mamlukes & swadians has crushed the rest xD)

Give Borcha a really fast horse, put him in his own group and get him to run near the enemy to break them up.
If he gets knocked out, thats OK, he probably deserved it.

A friendly arrow to the head might be quicker, make sure you have good Surgery skill
