graphics slow down?

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but this mod seems to just run slower than any of the others I play regularly. (PoP and Brytenwalda) I've even turned settings down significantly from my usual but I still get slideshows in any big fight...any ideas?

Yes, these threads may be helpful. Haven't thought about this too much, and it would be interesting to see what PoP do to prevent it.

I've tried all of those except reverting to dx7; I'm not sure how PoP for example gets around it but it does make this basically unplayable. Even on absolute lowest settings (performance of 170%+) I cannot get through even a 20 vs 20 skirmish without stutters and hitches.

Does it happen gradually, ie the game plays fine for 30 or 60 minutes, and then gradually lags, or does it happen straight away when you start playing the game?

Flagging the 'load textures on demand' setting has made a difference for me in the past.

It happens when you play for a long time, to solve this slowness you can simply exit the game completely (not just to main menu, but exit the game), then start again.
It actually happens when you quit and load a lot  (could be a memory thing?)

That's one of my standards, but I just checked and I yes I have that enabled...I'll try a session or three today and see if it happens right away or not (I've been starting new games, so I have generally been playing a while before I get to the 20+ melees)

Yeah, it's not good all the same. We have lots and lots of unused textures that we just haven't had the time to remove; that would probably be a good starting point, though I know very little about this type of stuff.

Lav got rid of a hell of a lot of useless textures. This version is positively trim compared to some versions of NE for M&B. I'm pretty sure most of what is in there is used and shouldn't be causing problems in 20 x 20 size battles.

(sorry for the late response, I was away from computers on vacation for a couple of days...)

It does seem to start out fine; I had an old save that I started fresh from and went immediately into a couple of 20-30 per side battles and it played fine. The slow down/stuttering definitely started kicking in after a while playing and a couple of reloads though.

Is the slowdown happening in battles? Specifically in hilly and/or forested terrain? If so, make sure Formations option is off in the game options in the Camp menu. Just a thought.

It's only in battles (I get the usual occasional slow load for a Guildmaster or other scene, but that isn't a real problem); I don't think it is related to the terrain, but I will try turning off the formations option.

It also definitely gets worse the more times I have reloaded without restarting the game.

It certainly seems to be caused by reloading; the work around is obvious - I just quit out totally and restart Warband if I have to reload more than a time or two...but it would be nice to know what about doing the reloads is causing the problem.

I'll try to get a good run today for a couple of hours without a reload and see if it happens anyways as well, just to be sure.

Or you could just man up and go with realistic saves...

Well even with no reloads at all, it does start to get the same slow down/hitching effect after a while anyways...starts kicking in after 4-5 big battles or so it seems like.

It's not game breaking as restarting periodically clears it up.
