Graphics problems on Win98 SE

I just downloaded last night. That would make it version 0.632, no?

I am running Win 98SE with 512M memory, and a GeForce 2 MX w/ 32 M memory (old, I know). I can't seem to find a way to tell which version of DirectX, but it's 8-something or 9. I keep pretty up to date.

Started out okay, then as I was choosing a "look" for the character by hitting the "Change X" buttons, the graphics went all crazy (polygons everywhere). I managed to recover by using a slider.

I started the game, and fps are like 3-4. Pretty bad. So I hit escape, hoping that will help me change graphics options. It instead put a random sprinkle of fragments up on the screen. It still seemed to be responding, because when I would click around the screen, the fragments would change. However, I couldn't get out with escaping or ctl-alt-deleting, so I rebooted.

I have GeForce 4 MX (64 Mb) and I have to reduce texture quality and turn off all eyecandy to be able to play this game. I doubt GeForce 2 MX will be able to run this game.

You should be able to see your direct x version and other directx information by going to start menu ---> run ---> dxdiag.

You might also want to update your graphics card drivers. You should be able to get new drivers from Nvidia website.

Thanks for your help! I

- updated my directX from 9.0b to 9.0c
- Downloaded new nVidia drivers (wow, it's been a few years)
- Found the graphics options and turned everything off

Now it works! I only get 9 frames per second, but hey, it's an old graphics card. It's somewhat playable at that fps rate. It gets a little tough when things start flying around (e.g, riding on a horse). Still, cool!

You might also want to try reducing texture quality. You can do it by editing rgl_config.txt which should be in your m&b folder.
