Graphics problem running Warband

I just bought M&B Warband (had my eye on the game for a long time, finally decided to give it a try), installed it, but I have a weird graphics issue when playing.

Just look at the picture....

This is appearing in custom battle, that is the only thing I tried so far, I don't know if other elements of the game are also affected.

Can anybody help me with this?

System specs? Graphics settings? Drivers?

Did you set the custom battle to a lot of units? Did you try something other than custom battles?

Don't have all the info at the moment (I'm in the office, stealing my employer's time  ), but as far as I can remember now...

Graphics settings.....resolution 1920x1200, 32bit, all graphics details max (textures, details, grass), glitch appears with antialising both on and off...

Specs....CPU INTEL Core2Duo e8400 (3 GHz/6 MB/1333 MHz)
            Gigabyte MBO GA-EP35C-DS3R S.775
            Force 3D VGA ATI HD4870 512MB GDDR5

Don't know about drivers at the moment, I have to check that

I set the custom battle to both max number of units, and about 25 units per side (the posted screenshot is from the 25 unit battle), the glitch appeared in all battles
I only tried custom battle, I basically just installed the game and wanted to give it a go to see if everything works (unfortunately, it doesn't  )

Did anybody else have similar problems?

Yes I have the exact same problem, I have been testing the beta since .720 and have always had that same problem in dx9 mode.  I recently bought the game hoping the final would work but it did the same.  Very frustrating.
I play games like fallout 3, high demanding games and have never had any problems.

I have tried updating and rolling back drivers, all sorts of different vid settings, nothing works...other than dx7 mode...but who wants to play in dx7?  maybe its a ATI thing? not loading the textures in mem?

I have a similar problem, with directx 9.  Though it comes up just like yours, it comes up with the sky textures on the ground and character detail in towns and taverns go as well. I have the steam version of M&B: Warband and you require 128mb graphics card AT LEAST. I have a 256mb and it STILL doesn't work on directx 9, i've installed directx 9 to make sure and the graphics still go all funny. I do run it on directx 7 so it looks like the original M&B but it does look really ugly.

I've done these things to try and resolve it;
- Uninstall and installing it again
- Restarting computer
- Downloading Directx 9
- Changing settings of detail and resolution
- Searched for updates for drives, found none
- Running the game windowed

I have just tried running the game in Directx 7 - it works.

Well my card has 512 MB, so that shouldn't be a problem

Yes, I also have a steam version of the game

It's either that its coencidental that it doesn't work on out type of computers/laptops OR its the STEAM version on M&B: Warband, which has a major bug in. Its a shame i cant return the game. They cannot accept PC games.

Nah, it looks like a texture issue. Try turning off everything (in DX9 mode) and putting all the sliders on minimum, and see if it still happens. If not, start cranking stuff back up and see if you can identify what's causing it.

I too have this problem and run an ATI card. It only seems to be effecting those with ATI cards.

I have ATI HD4850 and it's working flawlessly.

Everyone in this thread should update their video card drivers.
If you've got no idea what I'm talking about and never done this before, there is a big risk that you're card drivers are very old, and that's probably what's causing this.
And even if you've updated your video card drivers before, do it again, as ATI's releasing new and better drivers quite often.

Go to ATI.com and look to the right. You will see Download Drivers.
Choose Graphics first, then in the menu below, select your operating system (Win XP, Vista etc), then select in the next menu Radeon and finally select your video card name.
In my case I'll select Radeon HD 4xxx series PCIe.

If you don't know if you have AGP or PCIe you should be able to find it somewhere in the Control Panel of your computer.
Most people have PCIe, as it's the future and AGP has been phased out for years.

Click "View Results"

This will bring you to a new page were you can choose from two download options:
- Catalyst Software Suit
- Display Driver

I recommend you to choose Catalyst Software Suit, this will include Catalys Control Center in which you can fiddle with settings to your video card as well as see temperature and fan speed. I don't use this very often, but it might be fun if you're curious. It wont hurt in other words.

If you don't feel like installing another program on your computer, just download Display Driver as it will only update your driver and nothing else.

It doesn't really matter which one you choose.

Click Download to the right of the option you want and install it on your computer. Choose Express Installation if you get that option while installing.
When it's done it will ask you to restart your computer - do this and try Warband again.

Report back here when done.

Yes since last month they released 10.3 and that fixed all my graphic issues.  Hope that fixes everyone elses problems.

I had the previous version, not exactly ancient history, I didn't expect that Warband would require the most up-to-date drivers

you guys have a AGP or PCIe card?  If you have a agp the drivers wont work until you download the agp hotfix.
