Depends on the game. I think Dawn of War is the only game I really prefer multiplayer.

Wouldn't work, having magic immunity they can't be targeted by the spell.

Yes they can, it's a non magic spell which affects the ground it's cast on.  Similar to Earth to Mud.

I found this out the hard way when I fought Raven with my elite paladins...

Meh Sword of the Stars was seriously lacking on its combat front.

Couldn't get into the engine, felt like a head to keyboard experience with the inertia on the spacecraft being far too high.  Maybe I didn't give the game enough time but after 20 hours nothing struck me as anything special...

Imperium Galactica 2 was 4x lite incorporating too many gimmicky crap and lacking substance.  It's predecessor was better in that sense.

I liked the gimmicky crap. The cutscenes and things were cool.

I'd say it depends on the type op multiplayer. If the MP element is just an after-thought like in Stalker (TDM, woohoo :S ) then the single player mode is obviously better. But if the multiplayer mode allows the players to have the single player experience but with real people (OFP, ArmA, SEV, HoI, EU, Combat Missions 2 etc. etc.), then mp is clearly superior.
