Grand Duel Tournament - thoughts and ideas

I would suggest doing either 1h duel (with or without shields) or 2h duel (allowing greatswords only or perhaps any two-handed weapon without knockdown or stun). These are the kind of duel tournaments that happen on Native; the game jousting mechanic is quite random and as far as I know there haven't been tournaments using it for years, and even those were just kind of troll tournaments.

Doing it in one day would also be troublesome for a lot of people. Trying to gather everyone at the same time would be incredibly difficult, not to mention people getting bored as they have to wait hours until they advance into the next round.

Tournaments are usually first to seven format over several weeks with deadlines set which dictate the date by which people must duel. If you go to the 'Completed Tournaments' section of the forum via the Multiplayer Tournaments sub-forum and scroll to the bottom you will find a number of duel tournaments where you can see the kind of rules Native tournaments have. Of course you can bend them as you like but I don't see many people signing up for a tournament where their duel skill can be completely nullified by the fact they have to do an RNG joust later on.

Ye gibby but we no wanna tryhard here. We wanna smash each others face with morningstars

Native Duels Tournaments which go on several weeks are bad imo, no offense Gibby. A lot of drops out which kill the tournament, ppl are lazy to contact the player that they have to face. And plus this kind of tournament doesnt have real hype.

However NW Duels Tournaments go on one night with 2 servers ppl don't have to wait 2 hours to play. And by doing it in one night, there is a real hype. I remember NW Duel tournaments with like 80 players on the servers watching the semi Finales and the Finale. And fighting when a lot of people are watching each of your moves are not the same when you fighting your opponent on Ludus who nobody cares.

This^^

I've been told before that ending up with jousting is not the best for a usual tournament for usual players. At first I though it would be cool but yeah, perhaps something classic is the best rather than charging ahead and praise for the best (which was most likely medieval jousting so it would kinda make sense)

To be honest the community is extremely lazy and there's no point in creating another tournament at this moment in time. Even if it started in a month you've got the ECL, exams and ****. This community doesn't really deserve tournaments.

Actually, there were some, mainly while Swadian_Duel_Server was still up, pretty long time ago... It would be pretty fun to play some of those, even when it's 60% random...

Whichever one it is, as long as it's after my exams, I'll play in the tournament anyway

If you could actually manage to get 256 people signed up it'd be something to see.  Keep it simple with only 2h, 1h, and spear imo. Before the recent tourneys, I would have said spreading the tourney over a few weeks would be better but after seeing how they went I'm not so sure, and tbh a 1 day duel tourney which has lots of players would be cooler.

Also please no joust, that just sounds annoying. I'd remove any blunt weapons like morningstars and hammers and the like, because that's pretty **** to watch, not to mention overpowered. Generally, 2h will beat spears and 1h but when you do see duels that aren't just 2h V 2h, they're usually engaging (and I'm confident someone will choose spear/1h anyway).

Something else I was thinking about- if you're going to have it on one day, for the love of god make things speedy. Nobody likes waiting around for no seeable reason. I'm talking about quickly setting up brackets, quickly deciding who's playing who, and having multiple arenas for people to fight in, at least for the lower-level fights. I probably don't have to tell you this but just please keep it in mind

^^

So I may go for normal 2h/1h/spear, the tournameny will have 7 stages so next thing would be consider where is more appropiate to set the polearms fight and the 2h, if at the begginin or mid rounds. I though having some 1h but im unsure of using shields, i suppose you"re gonna use the free hand for some extra blocking otherwise you can ju have 2h. Im always thinking about fightinh with a spear and just came to my mind such fights may be very autistic with a shield so im sure it is pretty evident spear + shield shouldn't happen right? (let me know if im wrong)

About the date and administrative stuff: I'll go for one afternoon tournament yeah, I recently had issues with my last refs so this time I'll be very strict with the selection and organisation but while looking for a filter to have only competent people I'll actually need a lot. The system may go like 4 servers, so thats 64 players per server for thr first 2 stages. All maps consist of 8 arenas which means 8 series of duels for the first round. Yeah, thats a lot but thats the best deal we'll luckily have because 32 referees are needed. I thougth of using steam group annoincements when a new stage begins so people can be confident about waiting for their next match on a public server.

Usually players are allowed to choose their weapon, whether it be 1h, 2h or spear. In this case disallowing shields would make sense; I don't know how many NW players you have that are interested but there are very few duellists left in Native. Most have either stopped playing or aren't interested in competing again until Bannerlord. You will probably only get 50 - 100 players signing up from here.

Age of Kings
European 1h Dueling Contest
European Duel Tournament III
The Council Tournament

There is a wide variety of rulesets for each so hopefully that should show you the kind of things that we are used to here.
