Gradual system of traits.

There was another thread on this, but it was from 2007, and the system wasn't exactly what I had in mind. I got this idea from Medieval 2, where the king/prince/general would have random traits for the character, and as they fought in battle or resided in towns, they would gradually get more perks relating to their field of work. What I could suggest for Mount & Blade is a system of randomly generated perks based on what starting options you choose. For example, if you choose to be a steppe child, one of your perks could be "Naturally talented in riding" or such. And to keep a balance, there could be perks such as "Low intelligence" from growing within the steppes without a decent education. This could affect the maximum number of several skills, such as tactics, or trade. The same would apply to the riding skill, but increasing the maximum riding skill possible. While these skills would be randomly generated at the beginning, in a small amount, for balance, the more battles or trade and such you do within your character, a series of traits would be added. This would create a rewarding effect to your character, giving a sort of satisfaction and knowing that all your fighting or whatever area you choose, is worth it in the end. It also tells the experience of the character, such as a grizzled warrior. This would also apply for hero character you recruit, and other lords and kings of your empires with their own specific traits.

While the idea is relying on Medieval 2's specific system, I can imagine this basic format could be modified to give off a more original aspect.
