From what I understand of the situation these days, GCSE's, which are what 16yr olds take prior to leaving school for the greener pastures of college (or prison) have been dumbed down to the extent that 8 yr olds are now sitting them. And passing.

Well since a G grade still counts as a pass, that's not too amazing. Besides, GCSEs don't count for **** anywhere, it's A-levels that people look at from your school years, and even those only briefly.

Actually, having been looking for a new job for the past 2 months, I can confirm that's not quite true. 90% of the admin jobs with my local county council, for example, require 5 GCSEs above grade C as ESSENTIAL. It really depends on the sort of work you're looking for. Some places look for NVQs or GNVQs, some for A-Levels, some for degrees or diplomas, some for City & Guilds, and the list goes on. If you're planning on becoming a plasterer, a builder or a plumber, for example, you can completely fail your GCSEs but still go on to get a modern apprenticeship and make a decent living without any secondary qualifications. If you wanna be a cook, working for the council for example, if you don't have a Level 3 NVQ in Catering and Hotel Management, then you're at the bottom of the shortlist, and everybody WITH that qualification gets looked at before you. It's all relative, but having good GCSE scores is surely more of a benefit than not having them.

Honestly, might as well leave it as it is. If someone wants to cruise through their secondary/tertiary education just getting 50%, then its their loss when they get to the workforce and find that average doesn't cut it.

Just go away. It's idiots like you which make everyone think 13-15 year olds are illiterate ****s.

By the way in the US it's 60 to pass, and to go on to a good college you normally need 90+ and to be taking AP courses or IB courses or something.

Not always the case. I managed to get a free ride to a rather good college of my choice with rather average grades (then again I sent in my portfolio of writing...)

I just have to turn up, look busy and hope my next cost of living wage rise coincides with a peak in the consumer retail price index. Theoretically I'm supposed to work at some point in there too, but I don't pay too much attention to those things.

If Arch is not in the smartest million shortlist, I'll cut a testicle off.

I'm glad I live in Canada then.  60% is a "C" or whatever here, 70% is "B" (well B- technically) and the "A" range is 80%-100%.

So in the US I would have been a "B" student during high school.

I really don't understand the whole AP or IB thing.

:???:

In my high school, I needed a 70 to pass. That was a D. And that was ****ty Mississippi schools.

In college, it's 60% to pass, though.
