Ok , I'm officially screwed , our principal decided to up the bar from my year on . Instead of having more than 50 procent we need to have 60 procent on dutch , french and the lessons of choice just to pass to the next year .And that's the part were science(that's what i do ) get's screwed over the most because we have math , physics ,chemiics, biology as lessons of choice. So we have to pas all these lessons with +60 procent or you'll have to do your year again .
if you work with A's,B's,....              first you passed with c- and now you only pass if you have a c+ .

how is the situations with you guys ?

Good news.

Because school SHOULD require more than a pulse to complete. The new trend of people that don't know **** about **** being let trough school annoys me.

In highschool we could only have one 4 and one 5 (out of 10, grades are rounded).
In college, if I understood correctly, we have to get 60 cp in up to two year, 40 of which must be in the first year.

So you've got it good.

Oh , this does have a ground of truth . Buth not if your math teacher is so bad the average student in her class drops 25 procent from last years grade.
But however , morgoth is quite right.

@Mountainblade:what do you have to get up in the first and second year ?

60% doesn't seem high enough to me, I think 65% should be the norm. If you're worrying about it now, what about when you have to go to college, or even uni? You'll need a higher percentage than that.

Also, if you have a bad Maths teacher, then you put in the extra work at home.

What? We get cps for projects and tests, if that's what you mean. If the average of the tests is 5.5 and the project passes you get the cps for that quarter, for that subject.

Just go away. It's idiots like you which make everyone think 13-15 year olds are illiterate ****s.

By the way in the US it's 60 to pass, and to go on to a good college you normally need 90+ and to be taking AP courses or IB courses or something.

From what I understand of the situation these days, GCSE's, which are what 16yr olds take prior to leaving school for the greener pastures of college (or prison) have been dumbed down to the extent that 8 yr olds are now sitting them. And passing.

I saw a question on a physics paper a year or so back, that went something along the lines of "Some scientists believe that long-wave EM, such as that emitted by radios, can be harmful to the human brain. Discuss your opinion on this matter."

W.T.F MATE

1) That is not physics, that is biology.
2) That is not science, that is a debate.
3) When I was a lass, science involved things like calculating force, mass, gravity, the energy in the outer cloud of electrons in hydrogen-like elements, diffraction, conduction, radiation and, my personal favourite, PLANETARY STUFF! Including, but not limited to, describing the environments of every other planet in the solar system, how they are classified, what types of stars exist and how they form/die. It did not involve a DEBATE about BIOLOGY. It had maths and equations and it required actual calculations of things you KNEW you were never going to use in, for example, prison.

In my most humble opinion, raising the bar on what level is required to pass means that people need to work harder. The government should offer more support to students who are struggling, instead of just lowering the standard and risking heralding an age of complete morons.

But I'm not bitter.

That is so true.

60% is just so little compared to what you could have. In my school, 70% is the grade needed to pass. And I actually find it just right.

I mean, if you want to need knowing half of what is taught in order to pass, what on earth are you doing at school anyway? What kind of rtard pays (if you go to public chools, you're still paying it in the form of taxes) to have a course only to learn half of what it delivers? Of course no one likes the possibility of failure at school. But honestly, if you feel like you need the limit to be 50%, try and persuade you parents to either:

Put you in a weaker school

or

Quit school for good and have no prospects of future for life.

Or you could get your arse to the books as learn what they're trying to teach you.

heralding an age of complete morons.

Heralding? It's here already.

True, true. But I believe things could get much worse. Because this generation of morons are going to become the parents of the NEXT generation of morons.  It's Darwinism in reverse. Survival of the thickest.

Well since a G grade still counts as a pass, that's not too amazing. Besides, GCSEs don't count for **** anywhere, it's A-levels that people look at from your school years, and even those only briefly.

Yeah, those questions are giving free marks away, but if an exam is dumbed down, it just means the clever people have to do even better to get the top grades, and the stupid people just get a higher mark, with the same grade at the end.

Grades are based on UMS (Universal Marking System or something) which is derived from their mark in the exam compared to every other student's mark. To put it simply, you could get 1/40 as a mark one year, and still have an A*, as long as everyone else got 0/40.

In my most humble opinion, raising the bar on what level is required to pass means that people need to work harder. The government should offer more support to students who are struggling, instead of just lowering the standard and risking heralding an age of complete morons.

While the first sentence doesn't work with the current system in the UK, since your grade is relative to everyone else's performance, I have to agree with the rest of what you said. The French have started a support system with students being offered extra classes during holiday time to catch up. Obviously it ain't perfect, and many students won't accept the help offered, but it's better than the UK's "be clever or **** off" system.
