Does assigning governors to fiefs have any benefit?

I have noticed that after having caravans running around for ages, they do not increase the leading compagnion skills'at all. The same goes for assigning them clan roles or even sending them on missions.

Other than being fodder in hideout clearing, do compagnions have any role?

if they have the needed skill, they can provide help so u dont have to do jobs by urself. there are skills that make them worth being used as a governeur. also they do need to a certain skill to form a company on their own. i think their skills are getting better but im not sure, but if so, its very slow.

Leveling your companion skills takes centuries of grinding and can only be done in battles. Except for the scouting skill and running skills.

Stewardship levels up when a companion is assigned as Quartermaster. I wanted my character's lvl1 spouse to level up, so assigned her as Quartermaster of my party and her Stewardship is leveling pretty quickly. Scout also works, but it raises very slowly.

You have to keep in mind that most companions have a 0 in Social and Int and a 0 in the bound skills, therefore the skill progession is stunted.

I wrote down the exact XP in all skills before sending companions on quests, also for the troops I sent with them. The troops gain 0 XP and the companion only levels in Riding (for the way back to my army I guess). TaleWorlds still has a lot of work to do regarding companions.
