You just simply won't.  Sure, you'll be able to skewer newbs all day long...but you can do that with any weapon.  If you are fighting someone of equal skill/exp and he is using a 2h or 1h...you are screwed.

It's great for getting stabs into enemies already engaged (support, it really shines here), taking down horse and occasionally surprising newbs with it's reach.  Other than that...it sucks.

True, but I'm getting the impression the pike lovers in this thread are billing it as an all around weapon.  It just isn't.  Maybe I'm wrong about their intentions.

edit: Also, I'm not trying to come across like I hate pikes or people who love them.   I think they are great weapons, but niche weapons.  If you want to grab a weapon and pwn faces in any situation, the pike isn't for you.

Ah it can be a great all rounder, but it depends on your opponents. Someone who has two braincells to rub together will switch to down parry immediately whilst approaching, and rather than risk an overhead swing, its safer to switch out to the board & 1H as you at least have the time to do it, whereas if you switch to an overhead attack and they parry it, you may not have the time to switch weapons.
If its someone with a 2H, normally a Nord axe wielder I find, who chambers an attack whilst running at you and does'nt switch to parry when you chamber a thrust...take 'em down with the pike. Its fun, funny and a little lesson for them, especially when you get 2-3 kills in a row with a pike

The main things are, you have to be able to block well, you have to be able to kick, and you have to be able to aim the thrust or overhead, once you have all of those, its pretty fun.

That's how to get good...period.  Now, substitute a normal weapon in for a pike...and you'll be even better!

Anyway the Pike is a very under estimated weapon, it's reach and damage is completely thought useless by people on first inspection. Especially by two handed players.

Yeah, you were smoking us on that map.  The bit by the fence though, I'm not sure if you killed most of the Nords or if they killed each other swinging their long axes in tight quarters.  But damn, out on the ice you kept catching me with that damn lunge.  My ping allows me to do alright, but when I run into better players like you, I'm at a severe disadvantage.  Not that I'm making excuses, I still try to find you and the other guys that are better than me each time I spawn.

Ahh bones I remember dying by your hand a few times you were pretty skilled, you probably killed me more than anyone else. 

I watched a show on the scots and their warrior culture and they had a segment on the wallace sword, and how it was a weapon that was almost purely offensive, always kept in constant motion.  I applied that principle to the 2handed sword,  always swinging and positioning and blocking of course when needed,  it seems to work very well when using 2handed weapons.
