What is it?
Sort of a mashup of instant messaging, forum functionality (threading), and a few dashes of e-mail. Along with some other features. It does look promising.

That part sounded like an inside joke, probably it was some sort of quirky gift they got in their gift bags.

Anyone in the list of people you add to a 'wave' can edit anything.

Watch the video.

I remember there being a thread about a cognitive new search engine that would be able to answer questions directly and other such impressive things that would apparently dethrone google. Dunno if it was this 'Bing' though.

I fail to see why I would use it.

I'd probably use it for the same reason people use RSS readers for blogs and ****. I'm reading and posting to about 8-10 different forums and reading 5 or so blogs. Having all of those in a single app would make it easier and faster and the unified interface would probably make it just simpler to post and edit stuff.

Yeah, I can see myself using it.

Wolfram Alpha?

At the moment it's not that impressive, in my opinion.

It depends on what you search for. It'll work out complex mathmatical equations, however it can't give you the best place to eat a pizza in New York.
