I enjoy having a box to work with, NFO Servers has been a nice solution. Has a nice variety of locations and prices. With a VDS you can host a teamspeak, warband servers, and other servers as well.
I believe 1streddit use them too. You guys both have nice 200 slot servers.

Reddit server lags like hell with 200 people on it, NEC servers (bluefang) run smoothly with 200 people on them. e3-1230 quadcore 3.8GHz overclocked and 16 gigs of ram

That's because that server is way more expensive, as it's a Dedicated Server. I'm pretty sure the Reddit have a VDS, or Virtual Dedicated Server, which is your own "private" HT Computer core. It's way cheaper, and well does the trick for small-mid gaming communities. I hosted an ArmA2 event using Nfo VDS with my ArmA group, there were well over 2,000 bots, at least 20 players, and Weather events on. In addition, I host a private DayZ server on it with a private @Hive (so it's not against the rules, don't blacklist me rocket).

Basically, the comparison between NEC's server and Reddits simply by server brand is fallacious. As the NEC option, through bluefang, costs a lot more money (possibly over $200, but I haven't looked fully into it).

Yeah, that's why we got 2 full cores at NFO, for our NW_Official_US_1 and requested the VDS to be placed on a 3.44 ghz core machine from the latest series.
It runs 200 players without problems.

Though by default if you don't request anything you won't get the best

The problem with VPS is that they are often oversold, lag can be more dependant on what's going on elsewhere on the server box more than it is based on game/slots.

Thats true for 95% of the VDS in the market, but at NFO you really rent a full core (or multiple), not just a VCPU.

They don't overbook they assign each VM their respective cores and they stay there.

I'll back up what Vince stated. For my personal box, I rent a 3 HT core VDS from NFO. I've never had a single problem with them, and I host about 20 different servers on it, including a DayZ "Sanctuary" server, that is pretty demanding.

I'm using a server from Jestservers for the regiment that i'm in. And i gotta say i am really happy about the service i get there

They have a mod list where with a simple click you install the mod you want...
if a mod isn't on the list, i ask to add that mod to the mod list they do it almost immediately.
A handy file manager... to upload your own things if you want..

we can change the location of the server from NA to EU with a simple click on the mouse button. Really handy for US and EU training....
so yeah good service
