Hey there people. I know you people know alot more about the computer than I do, so that's why I ask this here.

My gmail has (almost) been hacked by an Ukrainian IP yesterday. Gmail said that it prevented him from logging in and that I should change  my password immediately. So I did.

I'm a bit worried though. How can he get my password+email? I don't often register for sites, and only those that I fully trust. Is it possible that he can get my new password too? Or log in in another way..?

I'm open for any tips you can give me.

Well, search your computer for any viruses, spyware etc. Make sure your password is Very strong. No Full words, make good use of numbers, big letters etc mixed together. Not only at the end, start or middle, I really mean mixed. Check your firewall/antivirus sofware etc if there are any incoming connections that seem fishy.

gmail allows you to select ip addresses that are allowed to access your account by linking your cell phone to the account. You will get a text message with a code every time you or anyone else tries to access the account. This is a good idea. You should do this.

Do you log onto your Gmail account from other, unsecure PCs?
No I don't believe so. Unless the PCs in college are insecure. :p

Sounds good. Do you know how to do that?

From Gmail: Settings->Accounts and Import->Other Account Settings (now at the Google Account Overview)->Security->2-step Verification
(Or just click on your username in the upper right and click Account to arrive at the Google Account Overview)

Keylogger on your PC or any other PC you've used to access your Gmail account is the classic reason.

I say, eat the dog. leave the last bits for the do... nevermind, just throw them away
