Depends since a swing takes good timing and you have no shield to...Manavlions are the strongest of the "one handers" however they are bad at range compared to the others. In that video above im using an manivlion in that castle the long version...Thrust is also perfect to stop horses and gives you perfect reach to keep things at bay combined with your agility....I get the trade that you get with two handers since youre open for archers and throwing weapons which makes you having to take cover

/Using the other manivilion here i think but i would reccomend to go for the longer versions when you go up in skills even if the stats are lower. Reach is key in many situations when youre using spears. You can use the Manivilions but then you go for more risk with slighly more damage and can miss out on cavs sometimes to and supporting behind shield walls becomes harder

I'm talking 2h damage. It doesn't really make sense that swing damage is 4 times higher than thrust damage for what is essentially a massive spear.

Agree, a Thrust is effective whith the collisionspeed, but it is mor difficult to hit the right spot/point. As Infantry in good Armor doesnt have so much movement speed, the thrust dmg is lower.
I compare it with baseball... never saw a guy to do a thrust
I don't see many books about the use of baseball in 11th century military formations.

lol good point ^^

True but then we also talk pointy stuff compared to slicy and so on. But i understand the trade off that one handed spears do such lesser damage since youre more safer and have cover with shield as youre a multifighter

But i feel much harder to connect a thrust attack against the AI (unless you flank them) than a swing which go through them like cheese or over their shields with the overhead attack. And when every swing = 1 kill, you don't really feel the need for a shield unless there are a lot of arrows flying. the menavlion is also OP in this aspect that you can quickly switch between 1H+shield and 2H.

As a side note guy with a open helmet (like most of them in bannerlord) should be able to survive a few swings to the head but certainly not a thrust through his face lol.

Agree now when i saw what that weapon can do while swinging and was thnx to Apocal  Since i only remember that one time i swung it in the castle against that Swahili fearsome warrior (best inf in game hands down) which i still have nightmares off and it was an miss hit to which i only remember as an cut for 40

Maybe we should also consider the perks in these aspects. I mean that you can get at least 17% dmg bonus for a thrust ( i know it isn´t that much) but when the "Guards" Perk work and you aim for the Head its 67%(yeah i know, not a one shot but with Speed maybe). Also when "Keep them at Bay" works you can push the opponent. So for guys who are thrusting i see a lot of potential. In addition: A thrust is not a good option against a opponent with a shield(not only because of the block but that invisible block area around the shield)

You can't thrust a spear from the second row of your shield wall either in most cases because of the block area around your friend's shield and body hitboxes

You can but it takes some over head stab aiming. But yeah idk now with the new perks though since it can raise the invisible area.

Yeah youre right there have been implementation of those to later as well. But idk if they affect that much since all the other trees has some what similar power effects but with their own special traits so to speak

With that i have to disagree. You can compare the simple Glaive with the Drilled Two Handed Axe. The difference in Speed is not that big.
Yeah, but the difference in reach isn't that big either, since the 2h and polearm weapon length numbers aren't quite comparable due to how your character holds them differently.
Still, you may be right. That's not a point of argument I'm ready to defend right now, just a thought.

I can see that my time here has been wasted. Have fun, mate.
It was good to discuss it though and hope no hard feelings came from it since its what this forum is all about. To find a good middle ground and to strive to make it the best sequel ever made

Patch Note 1.5.5:
Added -20% damage and weapon speed/reload penalty for using weapons while mounted. This is lowered by the Riding skill and reaches zero penalty at 100. The effect only applies to troops and characters in singleplayer mode.

As they could read my mind

Swinging two-handed polearms still one-shot everything on horseback.

This thread is the reason the game is developing at a snails pace: they are wasting time nerfing armor instead of implementing the rest of the skills and items

Also in 1.5.5
Item Modifiers Update:
  • While modifiers worked mostly as intended for armours, they did not work correctly for weapons(stats of weapons were not affected by them), that's fixed.
  • Not all items had the correct modifiers associated with them, that's fixed.
  • Modifiers now affect stack count correctly("large bag of..." works).
maybe we see a change there @Apocal

The modifiers are things like "rusty" "hardened" "starched" etc. Some weapons were unaffected (although in 1.5.4 I'm pretty sure cracked bows had their stats affected) until now.

I'm not using a rusty glaive and I'm pretty sure no one else is either...

Ok i will see you on the field, when they had implemented the chicken....maybe you can win with it . Joke aside, those threads are supposed to give a feedback so please calm down.

Ok, shame , thought this were the damage_factor or something else, my bad
