I'm not gonna lie I was a bit disappointed at how basic and simple the arena function is, I really thought it would have been expanded and fleshed out more.
Just like how you can become a mercenary, I want there to be an option to become a gladiator!
You go from town to town, fighting in gladiator battles and make a name for yourself.
This could be a great separate DLC if it had enough stuff packed in on top of the game mode.
To describe it, it's almost a cross between Dark Souls and Cyrene Gladiator Arena from Assassin's Creed Oddysey, but in Bannerlord!
When you start off as a gladiator, you get given lowest tier equipment and you are a nobody. You only get small reward for your wins because no one cheers for you.
But as you get bigger and make a name for yourself you find people sponsor you, giving you access to better weapons and armour, and because you're such a star with the crowd you get paid like a celebrity.
You travel the land duelling with people and participating in tournaments, and everywhere you go people scream your name! (ok maybe not scream but acknowledge you)
Also with or without this game mode/DLC, there should be some changes to the tournaments/ arena to flesh it out more
Right now it just feels so lifeless and void of anything. Even though they've upped the graphics and added some more ambient sound, it just doesn't add that much for me. Especially when I look at how some other games feel in 2020.
So some changes could include but not limited to;
The tournaments should be more grand, like the tournament in witcher3.
There should be trumpets and drums going
(Skippable) Cutscenes of the lords or named NPCs in the city taking seats
Peasants eating bread and drinking wine like they're about to watch a family box set
Tournament contestants readying their weapons
Contestants walking on the arena and saluting the crowd
+Special cutscene if you have family / companions in the crowd
+Special cutscene if there is royalty in the crowd
+Special cutscene if you have become a gladiator
+Special cutscene if you have made "enemies" with a certain NPC
the list goes on..
I think the whole arena aspect of the game could be a game of it's own if given enough care and attention to detail.
What do you think? Would you like to see a fleshed-out gladiator mechanics implemented in the game?
EDIT
Also, there could be a completely unique and separate set of gladiator skills that doesn't affect the other skills (so you won't have to worry about losing skill points)
Like unlocking different tiered gladiator equipment such as weapons armour or mounts
Or unlocking and levelling up "taunting" the opponent for more reward
Unlocking and levelling up "pleasing the crowd" skill for more renown
Or even *drum rolls* learning new fighting techniques like chain blocking (yes i said it) from going to gladiator academy?
Of course these are just suggestions
