Would it be possible to give player or at least modder ability to order ranged units to attack specific formation. Or at least some sort of enemy formation / unit preferrence. Something like focus archers, focus cavalry, etc. Or even focus enemy formation 1, 2 or focus certain area (some sort of diameter). Or perhaps something like focus big group instead of individuals etc. Or at least forcing archers to shoot in direction they are facing. Some sort of control.
