Give us level 1 companions.

In MB:Warband it was perfect. You were able to recruit your companions from level 1 and level them as you wish. Now, in this game we have to suffer a completely useless band of wanderers with horrible stats distribution, and there is no way even with mods to change this. Companions are an important part of this game and I can't see why the devs decided that you should be forced to recruit high level wanderers instead of rookies where we decide how they level up.

Forcing the players to recruit high level wanderers is a big flag of this game and this have to be fixed.

I mean, its a start. But yes, maybe an orphan, slave-born, a high-born third son, or runaway merchant's daughter would be an interesting low-level companion. That way you can pick someone with potential in certain skillsets but that is still at a lower level in pretty much everything.

On a side note, I'd say 'forcing' sounds pretty farcical considering that this is early access and there are naturally a lot of things missing. You aren't forced to play this so just be more positive and productive. Your username says a lot about how you are able to express your feelings but ideas would be good too. Not trying to be a prick too, just constructive so that your future ideas can be a little more useful to the devs.

It's funny you make this topic because today I got a surgeon who was level 13 but had none of the attribute points or skill points assigned it was kind of nice to set him up as I saw fit.

Only a couple of companions from Warband started at level one, Marnid and Ymira come to mind.

They were god awful and took forever to be any kind of use. I personally don't need level 1 companions just companions who have a build that makes sense for example I got an engineer who had 1 point in intelligence 60 points in engineering with no skill points in engineering and was level 13 I mean wtf am I suppose to do with that?

Ymira was my first aid...aid. I don't think it's good enough to take on the MC but I def want it. Her low level and high int makes her perfect for it.
Marnid gets put naked on a horse and into a separate division and charged into enemies while we all laugh!

:ROFLMAO:
"Jeremus has been knocked out" If I had a nickel for every time I saw that I'd be a rich man.

Wait what? Weren't the majority of Warband companions leveled and specialised with the exceptions of Ymira and some other guy? Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to have that in this game.

I think that runaway daughter or the family feud quest npcs can be taken as a level one companion sort of?

Not everyone was level 1, but half of the MB heroes were under level 5. I have nothing against high level wanderers, but the possibility to recruit rookies should be there for those who like to develop his companions.

What else would one to do in Warband than roam the map with 16 super soldiers?

Companions age along the same lines as the PC right? Isn't it possible a level one character would die of old age before being of any real use?

Aging is purely cosmetic at this point. They level slowly but not quite so slowly they'll still be useless after 1500+ days.

give him a decent armour and weapons. you will see jeremus kicks ****. besides that no army can sustain without jeremus or you waste so much points in surgeon. Jeremus is the backbone of an army. jeremus is love jeremus is life.

On one of my play throughs recently, when my little sister became old enough to join the campaign, she was level one. Since she didn't have a bunch of wasted points she leveled incredibly fast. She was level 13 within a year in game time.

I think a compromise would be to add to the random generation of Willowbarks and Sheildmaidens a generic - low level - companion to level as you saw fit. I'm Gilford the Farmer, and I'm bored. I'm Axios the Runaway, keep me from the chain gang and I'll murder for you. I'm Bella the Headstrong, what I lack in experience, I make up for in will.

Gives the player a bit of agency - I need a healer, I need a steward, I need something the devs havent thought of - and you have less of a problem early on (remember, getting a companion is part of the opening quest) running into "...I'll just need 127 lb of gold you might have laying around and I'll join up with you." every time you talk to anyone in the tavern.
