Give 1st person a try

I've noticed most people who play this game prefer the 3rd person view, but since switching to first person i've found it ALOT easier to block incoming attacks, especially at close range when it was difficult to see which way they were attacking due to your own character model blocking the view.

I'm not saying 1st person is necessary all the time, 3rd person definitely has it's advantages such as being more aware of your surroundings but before going into what looks to be a difficult battle i highly recommend switching view.

(I haven't lose a single duel since switching view)

Generally speaking in games I really love first person view, much more than third person. Though I find the first person in M&B to be really irritating; the arch of view seems too small to me and almost like I can't see as much as I should be able to, several of the animations also I find restrict the view in an annoying way the only time I really have a use for it is when using crossbows or bows.

I'm having huuge problems blocking with 1st person. But I got to admit that it can be fun at times using it, if only just to make it harder

And.. it's scary!

Uhm why not just use shift in 3rd person when firering a bow instead if you prefer 3rd person?

I like first person though, especially in melee fights, especially for blockign like Op mentioned.

Because its actually easier to aim in 1st person, because the camera is a little scewed in 3rd person. You can get a better zoom in 1st person also.

I'm telling you to use shift which changes it to 1st person momentarily, including zoom and then instantly changes it back to 3rd person.

Whenever I used 3rd person I would find myself losing long lasting fights because gradually as the fight went on my camera would begin to work its way down and eventually I wouldn't be able to see my opponent properly.

This only really happened in close range fights, but ALOT of people like to get up close and personal especially when using short weapons.

1st person is excellent for estimating reach and timing. But when you go against an agressive facehugger, it's like "wait, where the **** did he go? Is he behind me? ****!"

You mean every ai oponent then

Not really, once the AI gets into your face, they stay in front of you. Other players start to circle around you, and that's when you lose clue of what the ****'s going on.

I always back peddle whenever an enemy gets too close so they struggle to keep up, let alone circle around me.

I only found 1st person fun in the original MnB, now its to slow paced for all the people racing around you and shooting you, circling around ...etc. I only ever switched to 1st person once in Warband and that was when I first played it.

Pressing shift does not switch it to first person... It simply zooms the camera in to see further.
If you actually switch to first person, then you get more of a true perspective of where your shot will go.
This is especially true on horseback. When your coming out of a turn, the aim reticule is off by just a bit, or at least that's what I think.

Personally I only use 1st person when I am aiming a bow when on foot. Though I will say that first person can be alot of fun (such as looking down when playing a female character ) but seriously try first person in the arena. The view you get when your character is knocked out is pretty impressive for a game like Mount & Blade, I still havnt tried it when I get a horse knocked out from under me while going full gallop but I would bet its one heck of a ride.

Yeh 1st person is for ranged weapons

3rd person is a lot better, yes it my be a little more diffcult to block incoming attacks, makes u A LOT more aware of the surroundings, in 1st person u can't tell if some one from 90º left or right is coming or throwing a blow at you

It is, believe me. Especially if you are racing towards Sea Raiders and you get a throwing axe in the head. The resulting ragdoll effect makes for an interesting 1st person view!

Hmm, you know, I almost exclusively use FP. Not just for ranged weapons, but I can also aim much more precisely with lances and spears. And dying is much cooler in FP of course....

I switch to FP the last few seconds before impact when Lancing, to correct my aim. Other than that, I find it confusing in melee, and worthless for ranged since you can zoom with shift.

Well, if you don't do that, first person is pretty confusing in a duel. You can't use any advanced footwork because you're unaware of your surroundings in first person. Not to mention that backpedalling is not always possible, sometimes it's necessary to fight offensively. And constantly backpedalling is, honestly, pretty lame too .
