Gillies Death Timer?

I don't think the amount of time given for players to bring back Gillaes (or however you spell the dude's name) takes into account the number of troops/prisoners the player has, as well as the possibility of night befalling just as the quest begins (I "rescued" him in the Afternoon, in Feron territory, and by the time I even reached the continent his Kingdom is in, it was already the next day and he was dead). Also, I find the timer to be somewhat random - at one time he could survive reasonably well - until the morning of the next day. On another occasion, he died before it even hit midnight. In the end, I had to resort to cheating, and dismissing 90% of my army, to get him back on time.

Its not that I dislike the fact that the quest has an element of challenge to it, I actually enjoyed searching around for him, what I dislike is the fact that the actual "rescuing" doesn't consider the possibility of the player towing a 100 odd army around him with (since this quest is meant to be one of those "Discover it while you do something else" sort), which most players do.

It relies on your wound treatment or was it first aid skill? (Merathar's kiss? or something else) skills to keep him alive... If memory does not fail me, kardio mentioned that once or twice before.

Well, I did keep him alive for one and a half day until i got him safely home from feron territory, while carrying the 140 rag tag party back in 2.0

Well, If you gave a thought about it, any common sense would say better medical skills = more chance and duration of survival though.

Well, I did have a medic in my party (Jeremus .. Or was his name Magius? Something along those lines) ... Then again, M&B has never really encouraged me to use my common sense before - In native, I have to bribe Lords to pay up their debts.

But thanks for the help anyway. Incidentally, on all but one occasion while I was doing that quest, the Illorians began their Inquisition. But there was a single occasion that they din't, and it was on that occasion that I managed to bring Gillaes back before the timer expired. And since then, the Illorians have (yet) to start an Inquisition. Coincidence? Or not?

I'm pretty sure they didn't have "pimp" slap... Unless it was called "Thy Holy Slap" or something stupid like that. Plus, how would you kill the dude with a slap? Slap him so hard in the windpipe that he'll stop breathing?

Who said he's slapping the face ?

About the original question - it relies on your wound treatment skill, as well as a bit of luck. It sort of sucks that it happened to you, but I think it gives a quest more meaning if you can actually fail it.

I guess it does give the quest a sense of urgency that most quests lack. Heck, even him still being alive is a bit unrealistic (I took a month to find him). I din't have as much trouble rescuing him on my second game, since I was traveling with a small party and had Sack of the Wanderer from a Feron quest.
