Ghost Cam in Organised Battles

Recruit
To be clear I am strictly speaking about organised Line battles, not anything to do with the Public servers.

One thing that has bugged me since starting out in this community is its almost zealous following of allowing Fly By Ghost Cam in all events and I was wondering what everybody else's opinions on this were.

Now I can see why it is attractive from one perspective, especially as I record nearly all the battles I partake in it allows the dead guys to zip around the map watching interesting things (or film them) etc not getting bored watching the back of their own team mates.

But from the perspective of the Living, especially the commander I do feel it detracts a huge amount from the possibilities this game could offer. Not necessarily in "every" battle but certainly in the ones portraying themselves as Historical or Realism, having Johnny Invisible zipping round the battlefield telling everyone where the enemy is, how close the cannon shot came, where the howitzer should aim for a line about to emerge from cover etc is FAR from realistic.

Especially now with Napoleonic Wars removing the zoom (we wont mention the "hack") from all but officers with Spy Glasses the ability for Lines to "sneak up" on the enemy with clever use of Terrain has never been greater.
The option of having mounted scouts on each team to survey the battlefield in the larger events (on mountainous maps at least) and the need for an Artillery officer with a Glass to direct the fire of his battery all could add so many subtle elements to the game that Ghost Cam just wipes out in one swoop.

Maybe I am missing some great reason as to why this setting is so prolific in the community and "Lock to Team members view" never gets used, hopefully your discussion of this topic will prove enlightening to me.

Even if we lock the camera to a first person perspective, what big difference would it make?

Expect for Linebattles that take place in maps with many tall hills, you can always see/guess where the enemy line is. If the commander cant see it, at least a player from that line will see it.

And since both sides can see what the other one is doing i think its an equal challenge.

I think it takes alot more of tactic and skills to put a line in a "advantage" position than knowing where the enemy is.

Like someone said:

"Is does not matter where the enemy is...but how we aprooach it"

Ok well I will use the battle we had today as an example.  The spawns were on the crests of not particularly large hills, then dipped down before coming back up to a central area which was predominantly flat except for at the map edges where this weird "valley bowl" continued. Was kind of like an Inverse Donut I guess is the best way to describe it.

Enemy line runs down into the valley near their spawn heading right, goes out of sight. We don't see them again for a good 10 minutes, they had doubled back on themselves totally out of sight going left instead and hooking all the way round that side of the map.
Now this was a multi-line fight (3-4 lines, skirmish, cav and arty per side) and needless to say the other units distracted from keeping an accurate track of time on where they would of got to at standard running speed, they would quite easily of appeared behind us on the left as we were expecting them on the right.

Except as soon as 1 guy died he flew 50ft up in the air in ghost cam and went "oh hey, they went left instead", cue having a cannon ready and waiting for them as soon as they appear.  If the camera had been locked to Friendly Players only no one would of seen them until they came out of that valley.

I am not saying it would forever change the way Line battles are fought, but on certain maps in certain situations it would change the outcome tremendously.
Heavily wooded maps or the Snow ones with heavy fog are equally good examples.

No offense but with so many Linebattles that happen each day, it would probably change the outcome of 2% of them...
