Gekokujo: FAQ, Wiki, and Quick Help

Users who are viewing this thread

This thread is for the FAQ, but you may also post here to ask for quick help from me or the other players regarding minor issues.

Gekokujo now has a wiki: http://gekokujo.wikia.com/wiki/Gekokujo_Wiki (As of this posting, it is not yet filled up with any articles at all )

Q: My game crashes when I start a new campaign
A: It may take a very long time to start up a new game (that it looks like it must have crashed) because of the number of factions in play. I am working on improving startup time, but while that is still not fixed, I suggest starting a new game in windowed mode to allow you to do something else while it starts up. Once your new character is made, you can save it and restore full-screen mode -- starting a new game takes a long time, but loading an existing save is as quick as normal Mount and Blade.

Q: Half of the names are from regular Mount & Blade
A: Unfortunately, Gekokujo has not been properly translated from English. Playing on anything other than English will cause certain text to use translations of the native module. If you would like to give translation a try, even just for items and city names, download https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B29QA_i8Xg9iU0RKdk54Zmc3VzQ/edit?usp=sharing and edit the entries as you see fit.

Q: Where can I download Gekokujo?
A: The release announcement thread has all the mirrors, but here they are for your convenience:

Nexus: http://www.nexusmods.com/mbwarband/mods/3816/?
ModDB: http://www.moddb.com/mods/gekokujo
Yemeth's: http://www.solem-lauda.com/gekokujo/gekokujo_3.0.exe
Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B29QA_i8Xg9iMFYySHBRdDBCVkE/edit?usp=sharing

Q: I get an NSIS error when I download Gekokujo
A: That actually just means the mirror hosting the file is acting up -- I suggest downloading from another mirror or trying at a different time. I am trying to have as many mirrors as possible so that "download at a different time" does not have to be an option.

arlvent21 has also found a solution that might work for you (it worked for him):

Q: What are the character creation options?

as with native, characters who have kuge noble fathers start the game with a clan mon

you require 75 renown to enlist in a lord's army as a samurai retainer and 150 renown to become a vassal (with a fief, if a man). each point of relationship with a lord or ruler counts as 5 renown for the purpose of calculating these

Wiki articles forthcoming. Will include the above as well as clan descriptions, explanations of the fort system, showcase of the NPC companions (including companions provided by the forts), and gameplay tips from the community.

Hi,

installer doesn`t work for me. When I browse to correct install location the "install" button remains inactive.

Rgds, Oldtimer

Probably a stupid question, are you sure you have the rights to install in the folder you have chosen (run as admin)?

Also, if all fails, download the RAR and extract the gekokujo folder in the modules folder of mount and blade warband.

Good luck!

I think this is important

Someone asked me for a character creation guide, and so i went through the code and wrote this one up. There are some things "off" about it, now that I've looked through it systematically rather than just adding/changing stuff one at a time. I've only made one change since looking at it carefully, so this is mostly how it is right now and I want to take suggestions for changes and additions.

there was a mistake and male characters with kuge noble fathers started out with 150 renown. It was supposed to be 100 renown, and that has been changed for Build 6 of the beta (not yet released). Obviously, it will take a new noble character to see the fix.

some obvious fixes i can see:
- change one of the monk skills from persuasion to foraging (begging), possible take away their +80 starting mon
- change one of the monk weapon proficiencies from one handed to polearms
- rename "a ji-samurai" to "a lowly country samurai" to better mesh with and contrast 'powerless kuge noble'

hi phlpp i found a solution to fix NSIS errors (for people who's still having NSIS errors)

Final Options
As a last resort, the installer can be executed even though it's corrupted. To bypass the corruption test, pass /NCRC on the command line. To do so, go to Start->Run, type cmd and hit Enter. A black console window should open. Drag the installer into the window, hit Space and type /NCRC. Hit Enter again and the installer should start. This is not recommended!
When all else fails, you will need to contact either the developers of the software you're attempting to download or your personal computer support channels.

Hi all,

is it possible for a common woman to become a landed vassal solely on renown earned as independent adventurer?

If so, how much renown in needed?

Rgds, Oldtimer

A good place to start on the Wiki might be some clan descriptions. I know about the Oda and Tokugawa, and I get the Ikko Ikki, but I know very little about any other clans, so I have a hard time choosing a side. Anyway, excellent work! Thank you.

I don't recall the exact amount of renown, but yes this is possible. When you ask to be a vassal as a woman (150 renown, with 1 relationship with the great lord counting as a substitute for 5 renown), you don't get any land as in native, but if the lord seeks you out to try to convince you to be their vassal, you get a fief regardless of whether you're a man or woman.

Hmm, how do you get to have the flags on the back of the armor when playing as a freelancer?

EDIT: Guess I just haven't searched around in shops yet since I spent all my time as Tokugawa's retainer.

Does this have the "wife as a companion" sub-mod installed?
This tweak simply allows the wife to consider joining the husband's warband as if a NPC character,
and for me make the process of discovering and wooing a "likes to hunt and ride" or "romantic" wife
far more pleasant in a roleplay sense.

If not, might I ask it be considered?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

----
  edit: 25 june 2014
Thanks to the source being included in this module I was able to merge the changes and successfully test against my
char's wife.  It took me a day to figure out how to compile the untouched code and a day to find the merge points and
test them; I guess in total I spent more like 3 days because at first all my mods went horribly wrong then I went very slowly
and tested paragraph by paragraph until every tiny change was tested by itself and everything came together cleanly.
Write me and I can send the modified  module_dialogs.py  and/or  resulting  *.txt files from an otherwise untouched module
and you can either see what little was touched to make it work or immediately copy the .txt files and run with no further compiling or knowledge needed.  Anyway, I'm at    [email protected]  and the files are small

Certain ranks/roles have them. You get given one if you are in the right one.
Those flags are called sashimono btw.

Also, is marrying a companion a feature already? I have yet to get that far but I'm looking for my character to obviously marry one of the many companions

Go and look in the music folder. It has instructions there.

Are there any firearms in this mod that can be used on horseback? I haven't seen any, and while I enjoy firearms, I'm too impatient to slog about on foot.
