Gear/Gold related balance changes suggestions

You always get a minimum of 860 gold to spend, per round you get I think 450? If you kill someone you get some gold as well. When you die I'm not exactly sure what happens with the gold you put into your equipment. I think you just loose everything. However when you survive you can upgrade your weapons/armor but dont have to pay the full price, only waht it costs more then you already have (I think).

I agree that it isn't very clear at all. Most of the time I end up with a lot of extra money because I thought I couldn't affort more.

If its possible in the new money system to have less gold than in the round before, like it is now, one  should have a look on the downgrading system. I really hate getting a sax instead of my franciscas, just because i thought i could afford a bigger shield.
Don't know what other players preferences are, but to me helmets and shield size are least important, followed by armor. Weapons are sacred

That brings me to another point, this mostly happens because i never really know how much gold i will have next round to spent. I try simply adding 860 to the current silver count, but i doesn't seem to work out everytime, or maybe i just miscaculated. Well, i may be incredible stupid, but honestly don't want to care about that stuff anyway, otherwise i would have searched the forums about how that works long time ago. It just doesn't make to much sense to me... is the money gone? Do i own those items now? For how long?
Sure, i somehow get it, but its not very intuitive and logical to me. Would be great if that could be improved as well, while we (=you ) are at it.
Ah, a very good point Raegnhere. I actually thought about this before.. I think the priority should be something like : Melee weapons > Torso Armor > Shield > Throwing weapons/Secondary weapons > Head armor > Hands armor > Feet armor. Will add your idea to the main post.

Very glad to hear its not only me, i felt kind of stupid

edit:
I don't ever play archer, but i hear that archers sometime spawn without arrows... i thought maybe this is connected, but it isn't. Head armor is downgraded for them, instead of slot 4 item (arrows).

never had that happen to me, only when I picked up something without dropping something else first.

Barabas is right. When archer spawn without arrows it has nothing to do with equipment being overriden due to money available, but because you picked a weapon from the floor even though you had a spare slot. This might get fixed in the future, I don't know. I think it's sort of a way of not allowing archers to possibly exploit looting 2 quivers of arrow and having 40'ish arrows, a la Native?

well what happens is that Warband puts you equipment in the slots in increasing order. So if you picked three things, axe, bow, nothing, arrows, it will be: slot1-> axe , slot2->bow, slot3 ->arrows. So when you now pick up something it will be put in slot 4. When you spawn in the new round it can happen that it gives you axe+bow+whatever you picked up. However if you put, say a dagger in slot 3 before you spawn and drop it before picking something else up, that thing will be put in slot 3 and there will be no porblem  I'm not sure what happens when you pick up extra arrows though.... I would guess they will just fill an extra slot, but I never spawned with more then 20 arrows.

Theres one horrible thing that happens to me consistently is respawning with dinky javelins instead of my throwing spears because I happened to pick some up before hand, even though I threw them all away before the begging of the next round.

M&B's buying system is horrible, horribly mangled.

Thats nothing I once looted throwing spears and javs, next round I had 4 javs, then it turned to throwing spears and axes and last it was 4 franciscas. Inventory system just was making fun of me. Oh and once in native I was given javs as archer instead of bow (because I looted them as inf and switched to archer next round), I could through them but couldnt pick up afterwards.

I for one would be totally okay with it if all looted equipment would be discarded on round ends.

It's probably a lot of hassle making this work properly and logically.
As for balancing, it contributes to the dynamic of the repeatedly winning team getting stronger and stronger... not only because the have more cash to spend, but because players spawn with better weapons than their class normally allows (archers with high tier swords, berserkers with throwing weapons,...)

A very good point Raegenhere. I agree it should be this way. Unless maybe the looted weapons came from a teammate?

I have to say I am against that, for the same reasons i dislike the thought of a donating system. Allowing looting from teammates and donating in combination gives again the possibility to circumvent the class buying restrictions.

To repeat my points about donating:
I don't like it that a well organised group of players could gain an equipment advantage by sharing money. Sharing and donating is nothing that happend too much historically, and well organised players should put their effort into formations, tactics and stuff.
I also don't want to be bothered by chat messages from teammates asking for money and such.
Vikingr should be about fighting, too much micromanagement just detracts form it.

To be perfectly honest I missed your latest post Raegenhere at the time and I was just thinking of this thread and came to give it a look.

Your argument is sound and I now concur entirely. I don't want to see archers with big swords nor Normans with big round shields, in the end it detracts from the experience indeed. Just as the occasional guy who plays Native too much and ends up running around with 2 shields, I just despise that tactic. If I didn't add that to my main post still, I'll try to asap.

Keep giving your input people!

Thats nothing, have you ever met a guy with 3 siege crossbows. Archers should burn? in helheim.

Huh, yeah Rathos, but I'm not talking about Native gear abuse, just native-style Vikingr gear abuse.

As in, it's very easy to get 2 shields in Vikingr by looting and surviving until the next round, which I've seen some people do.
On the other hand, it's quite impossible to loot 3 crossbows in Vikingr since only one faction has access to it, you can only start with one, and it's unlikely you'll loot 2 more from the ground.
