Garbled, unreadable text.

Just downloaded the latest version and installed.

Garbled text at the intro, during character creation, and in the actual game. I entered the town and the graphics seemed to be running fine, except for the messed up words.

All drivers and directx are up to date.

Does something need to be configured or reinstalled?

Welcome to the forums. Garbled text is almost always a sign of graphics driver incompatibility. You have already said that your drivers and directX are up to date, but the only solution I can think of is to double-check that. Update your drivers from the chip manufacterer's site (ie. NVidia, ATI, etc.) if you haven't already done so.

I had the exact same problem a few months ago. Turned out to be my card drivers. I thought I was up-to-date because previous versions of M&B worked fine without garbled text, but it turned out ATI released an upgrade behind my back.
