Gangs of Glasgow - The Old Firm - Part 1 - RELEASED JAN. 6th 2011!!!

Sorry guys.  Have to beg your indulgence for one more week.  Got sidetracked into some real-world drama, but work is resuming right now.  Fear not.  ITZ coming.  There will be blood.

Rofl! As A glaswegian, I love this. Maybe you could do an invasion type thing... You remember when Holland came to Glasgow, October 2009? XD It would make my day to see those riots relived. I was out at a gig that night, it was crazy, gangs of people charging up and down the streets, up near the Barrowlands, throwing bottles, smashing shops... Riot Vans were out that night. All night.

You might not see the Dutch but there'll be plenty of people "charging up and down the streets"

I played the last version, it was excellent, had me laughing so much. Though some of the meshes and textures were scrappy, the gameplay was brilliant. It needed more variety, but hey, most of the time its only Flanged working on it I believe, and though I'm a mesher, I have TGC, which is dormant for a few weeks while i sort out college work, and I can't texture for ****. It'll be cool, more knives, machetes, kitchen knives, and random weapons though please!

Hehe, I wasn't there.  I'll need to totally re-arrange my Barras scene before I use it again, 'cos it's just too inaccurate.  It'll only be the Old Firm in this one, but once all the props and city scenes are out there, people will be able to recreate all kinds of riots.  My riot vans from the old version are too crap to include now, but I'll eventually make new ones.  Not for this version though.

There'll be a lot of new weapons, but because it's a storyline thing you won't buy them from merchants or steal them from enemies this time - though you can steal them from enemies during battle, as normal.  You'll mostly have to explore scenes and note where the weapons are, so you can find one when the trouble starts.  It's a prequel, so the full-blown warfare of the last version hasn't started yet, according to the "storyline".  Your job in this mini-mod will be to start it all off.

Well Flanged, any news ?

Only the usual - it'll be ready when it's ready.   Textures and models might still be a bit scrappy, I'm not much of a perfectionist (can't affprd to be), but there'll at least be a noticeable improvement over the last version.  The mopeds aren't working - a problem with the .smd conversion, causing distortion in their shape, but the dirtbikes are in, and fun to use.  Cars are in too, obviously, as seen in the vid.

I wish I had somebody who could model and texture their models to order, but every modder wants that - it's a lot to ask.  Especially with my ocassional disappearances.  Still, it's all going to plan, except how long it's taking.

Okay, there is good news and bad news.

Good news first:  petrol bombs are finally (finally) in, as new weapons, thanks to Keedo420's Flaming Skulls script.  There will also be some other types of explosive.

They are very overpowered, I might have to tone them down a bit, but they work great, and will be perfect for throwing at police riot lines, or cars for that matter (which will be almost impossible to kill with normal weapons - motorbikes, by contrast, are very vulnerable to damage).

BAD NEWS:
It might still take a while.  I've got an interview (yeah, a feckin interview!) with a Glasgow crime magazine, The Digger, and they want a lot of entertaining high-res screenshots - the more violent the better, and set around the Glasgow landmarks that are in the game.  Getting those together will take me a while, since I'm setting up Quick Battles to show off different areas and weapons... but you don't care about all that.

The main point is that it will set me back at least a few days.  This is my first chance at some decent publicity (even if it turns out to be negative - the headline might be "Ban This Sick Filth!" or "Murder The Prick That Made This!" for all I know) so I've got to get the pictures right.

Anyway, that's just a wee updates for ye's.  Progess toward release is still being made, and everything's still on track, except the deadline.

So you're giving an interview. That's good news and goods news

The petrol bomb looks great. What's a riot without fire? A typical Wednesday afternoon in Glasgow

Yeah, it's great, eh?  The interview, I mean.  Should be in next Friday's edition, so any readers here from Glesga should make a special effort to get a hold of it.  Aerid Thongar, I'm looking at you!  Glesga expects that every man will do his duty!

As for the petrol bombs, you won't see it in the pics, but they do knock the targets for a six when you hit them, and the fires stay deadly until they die out, so they can be lain in the path of advancing enemies.  It's great.  I've got some other throwable stuff up my sleeve as well, but it's staying under wraps for now.   Should be fun though.

Those petrol bombs are amazing looking
It would be cool throwing it into a police line.  Will you be adding any feature (maybe formation) that could make the police hold position in a line until fans or hooligans got close enough then they would charge them ?

Now you can, mate!  It's out, and you have an opportunity to lay down the wall of fire in a certain late mission.  Remember to play through in order though.

Yup, I've got the police to hold their lines until attacked as well.  You will know it when you see it, though it didn't take any wizardry on my part (just using the right mission template).

It's out lads.  At long last, I finally got it finished, and I'm now drunk as ****.  IT'S OUT!

Hehehe!  That's me right now.

Thank Christ this thing's done with.  Now I can trash my own house.

By the way, congratulations on the interview. It is really cool to get that type of publicity, simply cause it rocks to be in a magazine.

Yeah, the interview was a good thing...  I hope.  It might come back to bite me in an unexpected way, but no point worrying about that now.

Hey, did anybody beat me to it on dismemberment, or did I finally manage to be first at something?

I bet there was a patch for Warbahnd in my absence that added it to every single npc.

That would hurt.

Good lookin' stuff!

On to next stage..

Oh, you're going to like the next bit, I just know it.

Have you got HDR on there somehow, or is it the "colourful textures" mod?  Looks nicer than on my compy, to be honest.

Nice to see you took the bosses' advice and smashed up his office.

Oh, a question, before I pass out.  Is the dialogue alright?  I mean, can it be understood by anybody who isn't me?

Yeah, I use HDR so it looks nice and smooth.
The dialogue is great and much easier to understand than in GoG 'classic',
but I haven't come across any of the underground, low life Glaswegians yet
